Gee, it appears Lucifer's premortal plan has worked!

Yes. And he would preach sermons against smoking and then ride around Nauvoo smoking a big fat cigar. He liked to push things just to see how far he could go. In his defense, I think he really took the "recommendation, not commandment" part of the WoW seriously. ;-)

We haven't tried it yet. To do that we'd need jackbooted thugs and much more power. We'd need Scratch's worst nightmare and his views of the SCMC to be too lax. I don't think you understand the difference between instruction and compulsion.

Principle: Polygamy is an abomination in the sight of God (according to Jacob in the Book of Mormon).

Act on this Principle how you see fit.

Joseph did (in terms of polygamy), which was then mandated by God (according to D&C 132) under penalty of decapitation (according to Joseph).

Hmmm ....

Matter of perspective.

To do that we'd need jackbooted thugs and much more power.

Both of which exist in today's Church.

I don't think you understand the difference between instruction and compulsion.

They are often the same in the LDS Church.

No, unfortunately I've never seen that reunion that you mentioned. Too bad, as I love Monty Python. Chapman was probably my favorite Python though, along with Michael Palin. Speaking of which, have you ever watched Michael Palin's traveling around the world show?

Yes, but only about one and a half episodes

truth dancer wrote:Oh dear... so which is it?

Obey the prophet?

Or follow your personal revelation/inspiration?

It sounds like you are suggesting that, "once the prophet speaks the speaking has been done".

I know for a fact there are members whose personal views are not aligned with the church stance regarding this issue... should they listen to their own inspiration or disregard their personal revelation and obey the prophet?

Both!!! Is that really so hard to grasp?

I wouldn't worry about members whose personal views are not aligned with the church stance unless you're under the delusion that every single member's personal views come direct from God. To counter this delusion I present Exhibit A: Harmony and Exhibit B: Me.

Wow......just...wow.

You really think the LDS Church is attempting to use compulsion? Hahahahaha. Have you been to Church lately?

I'd like to meet these jackbooted thugs and see their powermad quest. If the Church has it's own SA I'd love to hear about it.

You must think the Church is very powerful if they are able to warp reality and make instruction and compulsion the same thing. Better not let this secret get out. Imagine how dangerous it would be if this got into the hands of the school system or politicians figured it out. We'd jump to a slave state within a generation.

In conclusion, you're an idiot.

Brother of Mahonri wrote:SO do you follow the guidance of the prophets who said that Adam is god or the prophets who said Adam is not god?

I follow the guidance of the living prophets. This ain't rocket science.
p.s. According to "His" words, its OK to drink coffee, as long as its iced coffee. Its the temperature that matters, not what the drink is. Well OK wine and Strong drinks are also proscribed even if they are cold. So if you want to obey "His" words and drink alcohol, you should stick to an ice cold beer. Cheers!

No, even if D&C 89 does not explicitly prohibit some things, the living prophets have indicated otherwise.

edit: bah, I wish I could find a link to the entire interview uncut. Here's another little anecdote from that same interview. Wicked funny.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
