??? I thought the church's position about the tsunami and about Katrina was that missionary work wasn't progressing very well in those areas so God baptized the people Himself.

You have to come out of the water alive to complete a baptism. Drowning someone while baptizing them and then pulling the corpse out is not a successful baptism.

Jason Bourne wrote:Inc, in your post above and in other posts you keep saying the Mormon Jesus or the Mormon God. Why do you do that? Most of what you write above applies to God and to Jesus without Mormonism's spin on things.

You still seem very angry at the Mormon Church.

The Catholic Jesus didn't appear to Joseph Smith and say that the Catholic Jesus was an abomination in his sight.

Two different guys, man.

Besides, this isn't Catholic Discussions, right?

Grow up man.

Jas,

The observation wasn't whether or not a Mormon (or even an ex-mormon) is compassionate.

How does not wanting to be like the Mormon God equate to a desire to have my butt being wiped by Him?

besides..

who wipes??

Hi TD, you ask:

If a prophet were actually in direct communion with the God of the Universe wouldn't there be something.. anything that could help our species? (I'm not talking about not smoking or having FHE, I'm thinking in terms of global warming, alternative energy sources, sustainability, managing global connectivity, dark networks, terrorism, etc. etc.).

This question has to have been at the front of any thinking person's mind for centuries. And yes, it has been answered to the satisfaction of millions over those centuries.
However, since it is still being pondered speaks volumes about the inadequacy of our Education facilities to teach truth beyond the censorship dictates of the religious community. A community that still influences its fearful, faithful adherants and the ignorant who place their trust in religion to guide them through the so-called mysteries of life to reasure them of their eternal dreams.

I respectfully, and thoughtfully suggest, it is this seeming need to believe in the biblical presentation of life-after-death that perpetuates the question and stultifies an honest answer throughout Christianism in general. Mormons are just one the groups of Duped...
Factoring in the LDS claim of having a Prophet who communes with God (of the Universe;-) simply brings more light to the darkness in which we, who have been shapen by our Judeo-Christian heritage, grope for honest answers and solutions. Answered best by experts in their field, as you point out... Not by religionists.

The next time an attempt is made to reduce religious influence--prayer out of schools, Christ-out-of-Christmas, etc--don't lets be too quick to defend the traditions that have done little but support the system at fault...

Your rambling post blames God for everything. You know the song " I never promised you a rose garden." That's life man. Get used to it. Do you have kids? Do you save them from every potential painful experience? How do they learn if you do?

I don't have all the answers and some of what you post challenges my faith. But I do believe that God is not there to fix everything for us and life is full of pain.

Do you even have faith in any God?

TD,

Sorry for the slight derail, I'll start a new thread for Jason and I.

Nehor, it's time for you to grab your sandwich board and head for Temple Square.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

This is exactly the mentallity I'm talking about.

Nehor,

There's more than one reason you don't believe Social Security will be there when you turn 65.

You know, I never once paid tithing on my Fica deductions when I used to think like you - and I considered myself a full tithe payer. Think about it.
