Many of the ponzi scheme types and con artists in the LDS community pay tithing. It is part of their scam and is very useful in fleecing the greedy members who believe their promises of out of this world returns on their money.

Jason:
CFR please

Go read any general authorities talk on the importance of tithing.
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

Or, in my area, the church owned mega-farm.

Given the bad economy and its effect on senior couples' leaving home for missions, I could see the "local" gig become the norm for senior couples (at least in a lot of locations), and I bet most would find that more palatable than going somewhere else.

So they live at home and have plenty of off-time. . . what's the difference between couple missionaries and a couple non-missionaries, and how would you know the one from the other?

Please refer me to GC talks that talk about the many ponzi schemes and fleecing greedy members, etc, etc.

Only "official" missionaries (even senior couples on a local mission) get to wear the black nametag -- that's how I tell the difference.
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

So they don't actually do anything different--right?

Jason,

You will not like the comparison but the Mormon Church is a ponzi scheme.

While expectation for reward is some what different – Bernard Madoff’s victims were expecting 10-12 % return – you and other Mormons expect to be a god and rule worlds in exchange for your faith, obedience and cash. Tens of thousands of dollars of your cash..

I don't like it or not like it. It is just an invalid comparison. A ponzi scheme works based on cash coming in and cash going out. There is no real return an any invested assets. Only as long as more people can be scammed into putting more money in will the scheme be able to pay money out.

Mormons and other Christians simple believe God as the endless ability to reward the obedient and faithful for their good works. Nothing like a ponzi scheme at all.

And I see you were unable to provide me with the references I requested. No surprise.
