Yeah, but who beats the magic flute?

About 98% of all males aged 12 or older.

Doctor Scratch wrote:"Faulted"? I don't think so. I may have pointed out that you seem to gravitate towards the more conservative, stereotypically "Mormon" things, but I don't think I said that that's a "fault." If you're embarrassed or insecure about your own likes and dislikes, that's your own problem, Prof. P.

I've just always found it amazing that, with a straight face, you would presume to report on the literary, cinematic, artistic, musical, and comedic tastes of someone whom you don't know, simply on the basis of his posts on a board that doesn't focus at all on literature, art, music, comedy, or film.

But then, when I watch you pronounce judgment upon closed e-lists to which you have no access, and discourse upon confidential editorial processes of which you know nothing, and so forth, I realize that it's all of a piece.

You simply make things up.

Lol. I'd love to comment further on this, but, unfortunately, I have a plane to catch, since I'll be delivering a lecture at Cambridge. After that, I plan to dust up on my reading of Dickens as I kayak down the Thames.

I offer, as a parade example of Scratch's genuinely dishonest way of treating things I say, his current signature:

"We don't need it" ---DCP, discussing the relevance of peer review at FARMS; MDB, 7/28/09

He's yanked what I said out of context, and completely misrepresented what I said. This is so brazenly shameless, and so indisputably obvious, that he simply has to be playing a game. But what kind of person is it whose favorite idea of sport is -- based on his antics here -- to malign and deliberately misrepresent others? He pulls this stunt over and over again, and very often just as transparently as he's done here.

What is the point of it?

Much better to have it blown than to beat it.
