Hoops, I was wondering if you have an idea about when the Sun was created? Was it created before or after the Earth? Is it only 6000 years old?

Does anyone have any thoughts on the problems with a young earth and astronomy...or anything else?

Well I come from parents who believe a very literal young earth and global flood. I strayed away from that early on only because of my interest in science. As I started taking courses even in HS you learn a lot of things which made me think the literal view just didn't make sense. This got worse as I entered university. At some point I no longer had problems with an old earth and knew a global flood was not possible. I would suggest the best course is just for one to learn actual science, especially the physical ones, for the purpose of learning, not to disprove or prove religious beliefs. The questioning of a young earth or global flood will come as a natural course of learning real science, and it is much better when the person doesn't think someone is trying to change their mind.

The text? Where did the text come from? Who wrote it? Especially where did we get Genesis from? Do you know of any source documents? Were some of these stories past down verbally for a time before being written? The questions could go on and on. It's difficult to take a text literally when we know so little of where it comes from and how it got to us.

Is that measured by Earth solar days? :)

Where did the light emit from in day one?

This is just silly, there are enough studies on genesis that one can understand the creation story as purely metaphorical.

To believe in a young earth is a very brave yet ignorant phenomenon to do, and I admire your ignorance.

Fair questions that I would be happy to discuss with you, but not the point of this thread. In short, you are addressing questions that one has already hammered out to get to the point of regarding Genesis literally. In other words, you are asking, "why should one trust the Bible."

Not necessarily. We do know that time began with the first moment of creation. We also know that there was another source of light than the son, which is the "genesis" of your question I think.
