Some of you did turn into sociopaths though not a majority.
Sad that they all become congressmen, senators and presidents.
Actually I think most of them became Youtube commenters and Messageboard posters.

Most of those being the ones not disciplined. I beg to differ even further. I have witnessed now nearly three generations of children to teens including my own (70's,80's,90's) and it's gotten worse as physical punishments have decreased and permisiveness has increased. Back in the 70's, the schools weren't broke (as some had supposed). They are now.

Physical punishments and permissiveness are not diametric opposites. There are other types of punishments which work which don't necessarily have to be physical. Simply because parents choose less physical punishments does not automatically make them permissive.
I agree with the type of parenting Harmony applied to her children. Break a rule and you end up with extra household chores. We have incorporated similar techniques with our kids. It is more a case of "let the punishment fit the crime". Talk back to Mom and Dad? The cell phone is taken away for a week. Come home past curfew? No car for a month. Don't do your homework? No TV or computer games until the grades come up.
Come to think of it, my girls would have probably opted for eating hot sauce as opposed to losing their phone. Anyone who has girls knows that the phone is permanently attached to their ears from age 12-20! LOL
None of us turned into sociopaths; none of our children did either.
I think there are a lot more factors that go into how someone "turns out" than the rules and punishments their parents imposed. You can't get away from a huge element of individual human free will that exists IMHO and is hard to predict. Admittedly when I taught school or became a parent, I found myself referring to my own childhood on how to deal with discipline situations.
I'm with Harmony on some of this. I heard an outcry on the radioshow of a teacher who made the student wear his gum on his nose. They wanted to bring criminal charges against the teacher. When I was in Jr. High School in the 80s that was the standard rule. The teacher was probably just repeat parenting not even so much out of vengeance but because that was how she had learned to do it as a child.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Nehor,
You are quite simply wrong. Each generation produces the next "crop" of sociopaths, pedophiles, murders and criminals of all sorts.
With regards to pedophilia and sociopathy, when you can determine the cause of each of those, perhaps you can link it to a parenting style or a specific generation.
But good luck with that, since the cause of each remains unknown and I'm surprised that no one has called you on this.
Consider yourself "called".

Yeah, I know. What I was mocking was the age-old cry of how these "young'uns" are screwing everything up when the last generation created the current crop and the current crop has always created a subset of nutters.

I wasn't linking it to anything. I was pointing out the universality of them in each generation.

I think they understood what I was saying and so saw no need.

Only when you're servicing Jersey Girl. When you're servicing me, you sleep in the dungeon as usual. ;-)
