It’s worth noting that Nelson has never apologised for this.
Just because he okayed the scheme year after year does not mean he mailed all the documents. He has faithful employees for that kind of thing.

Captain Russell M Nelson served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. What a great man! A devoted and esteemed father, cherished his nation and his beliefs.
For clarity…
Nelson served a two-year term of duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean War, and was stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. While on duty, he was assigned to a research group formed by the commandant of the graduate school at Walter Reed, Col. William S. Stone and led by Fiorindo A. Simeone, a professor of surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland who had been a clinical investigator in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II. This team was focused on ways to improve the treatment of the wounded, and was sent to all five MASH units active in Korea along with two major evacuation hospitals, several field station hospitals, a prisoner of war camp and larger evacuation hospitals in Japan, Hawaii, and the mainland United States in order to implement such improvements. At one point, the team came close enough to the front that they received fire from enemy artillery positions, which missed them.
And
Elder Nelson told how on one occasion near the battlefront they were fired upon by enemy artillery fire. "Fortunately," he said, "the enemy projectiles missed us."
Nelson’s anecdotes and reality are sometimes only distantly related. I’ve been unable to corroborate Nelson’s story. The head of the research team supposedly fired upon on that one occasion, Fiorindo A. Simeone, doesn’t mention it.

Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

The scheme also coerced other individuals into perjuring themselves.

Honorable service! That is admirable.

thank you for this post M.G. 2.0 . I'm really interested in President Nelson's life, especially when he was a surgeon during the Korean War. I would like to do some research to see how many hours he spent in Korea and how many times he did surgery on those injured in combat, but I have a thought disorder so that's not likely. Here is an article from LDS living:

https://www.ldsliving.com/2-spiritual-e ... ar/s/91940.

This is a story that Lynn Packer should do research on.
In this article from the same publication President Nelson gives counsel in regards to developing a testimony of Jesus Christ:
I asked the young adults of the Church to consecrate a portion of their time each week to study everything Jesus said and did as recorded in the standard works. I invited them to let the scriptural citations about Jesus Christ in the Topical Guide become their personal core curriculum.

I gave that challenge because I had already accepted it myself. I read and underlined every verse cited about Jesus Christ, as listed under the main heading and the 57 subtitles in the Topical Guide. When I finished that exciting exercise, my wife asked me what impact it had on me. I told her, “I am a different man!”

In other posts I have suggested to those that have an open mind towards finding and discerning truth to put Jesus Christ at the center in your/our studies. Why? Because it is Him to which we seek for light and knowledge/truth. Men are merely the conduits of that light and knowledge. President Nelson in this article that he wrote emphasizes Jesus Christ and why we ought to center our studies and our minds on Him and His life and teachings.

It's interesting that HoundDogMike glowingly describes the Mental Gymnast as nothing more than a troll who relishes the responses to his disruptions. I'm glad these two have found each other.

His prophetic promises:
https://latterdaysaintmag.com/prophetic ... elson-101/
No. That’s very misleading.
In today’s cover story, we have gathered many of President Nelson’s promises and have paused to gather ourselves to attention in contemplation of his righteous and wonderful life. Reading these promises not only inspire us but they give us a powerful sense of hope.
Nelson making a promise is not the same as Nelson Prophesying. Here’s a useful definition of ‘Prophecy’ - Prophecy is a message believed to be communicated by a supernatural entity to a person known as a prophet, often containing divine will or knowledge about future events. Prophecy would have been warning humanity specifically about Covid, or the financial crash of 2008, in advance.

A well meaning generic statement does not meet that criteria.
