Adult Ritual Sex Ring

This component was evident in all five of the neighborhoods examined. An adult ritual sex ring consists of a number of adults who act collectively and covertly to systematically sexually, physically, and psychologically abuse children and adolescents in a group setting. The 39 children included in this study provided detailed reports of adult ritual sex ring behavior.

Case Example

A 15-year-old boy who had been involved in an adult ritual sex ring since the age of six described being initially recruited by the child of a ring member. He reported being transported to different locations where adult members met, including a warehouse, cabin, closed business, and several homes. Numerous children, adolescents, and adults were present. Many he knew as neighbors, friends' parents, and religious leaders. There were also people he had never met before. Children were divided into groups with different activities occurring simultaneously, including filming of pornographic sce­narios acted out by pairs of youth, viewing of pornographic films, and sexual activities by various participants. Injections were given that prevented move­ment and dulled pain. Urine and feces were ingested, and cross-dressing, costumes, and bondage were used. He was forced to participate in the torture and mutilation of two dogs. He was told that Satan was more powerful than God, that the group contained his "true" parents, and that should he tell of the activity, his other family would be killed and his house burned. Physical assaults and diverse other threats were made to ensure his silence when released.

I can't find any reference to Satanism or Satanic ritual in either.

It was after meeting with Dr. Snow that children began levelling accusations against members of the neighborhood in July 1985. After multiple “therapy” sessions with Dr. Snow, Plaintiffs eventually accused the babysitter, her friends, their father, their paternal grandmother, her friends, and several neighbors of Satanic ritual abuse.32

Dr. Snow’s business partner subsequently wrote that ten children eventually made allegations of abuse against adolescent baby sitters and adult men and women in the neighborhood.

Identification of ritualistic neighborhood abuse cannot rely on spontane­ ous "purposeful" disclosures (Sgroi, 1982) or disturbed behavioral profiles of offenders or child victims. The data from this study suggests that children do not directly seek help by reporting their abuse. Not a single child subject made such a "purposeful" disclosure. The majority of children initially denied any knowledge or involvement and many maintained silence for a significant length of time....

The authors were struck by the initial apparent normalcy of the children included in the study: Only 18% were referred for treatment of emotional and/or behavioral concerns and 13% for inappropriate sexual activity and/or talk....

The facade of normalcy extended to the behavior of the perpetrators as well. The high incidence in this study of religious leaders within these neighborhood cases seems almost incomprehensible as their daily lives rep­ resent a conspicuous model of morality....

None of the youth showed overt signs of self-styled Satanic activity and were considered to be consci­entious, responsible, and representative of traditional values.

A 16-year-old female was convicted in juvenile court of sexually abusing preschool children for whom she was a babysitter. In court-ordered therapy she disclosed a long-term incestuous relationship with her father who had involved her and her siblings in an adult ritual sex ring. To ensure her silence during adolescence, she was required to recruit new children for the ring, as well as abuse them independently. She verbally berated and slapped one 4-year-old boy she tended, calling him "stupid" and "bad." She would then fondle him and commit fellatio. Her father telephoned to monitor her actions and would instruct her to bring the child at a specified time to the basement of a neighborhood home where the adult ritual sex ring met.

Although terrified of exposure, her desperation to end her involvement was expressed by increasing carelessness, which led to her eventual identification as a juvenile sex offender.

Of all of the cases referred to by Snow in this article, none of the Satanic ritual abuse details were corroborated by anyone else, or by any other evidence. NONE.

Are you saying that Mormon Sex Rings are not possible? I am concerned that underneath the panic, there were children being abused. I can't comment on the cases you note or the conclusions you draw (no evidence for any of it) because I don't have the evidence to make that judgement. And again, children were taken to Snow because of parents concerns about the behaviour of their children. Snow may or may not have muddied the waters, but underneath the panic you still have concerned parent,/s.
