I also want to quickly point out that the same believers who protest that god and its associated claims must remain totally outside the realm of science and logic, would happily JUMP upon any evidence science and logic happened to provide that support their godbeing premises.

In other words, they tend to be hypocrites and only insist that science and logic must remain in a separate realm when they realize that science and logic aren't supportive of their claims.

Very very very true!
Science is lauded when it's 'helpful', and then quickly ridiculed when it isn't...

I.m reading a new book - weapons of war by jeremy black it says at the beginning: " when a small Spanish force fought natives on the Yucatan coast of modern Mexico in 1517, it was driven off by warriors carrying stone-tipped spears and flint or obsidian-edged swords". I was wondering if their breast plates were on their walls at home as a decorative item, sort of a home with antiques.

Yes, those stone tipped swords and obsidian studded clubs are what apologists claim could be the swords of the Book of Mormon - ignoring that the time frame was still off.

The breast plates are the same - some ancient mesoamerican warriors did wear a sort of cotton-batting vest, and that, to the apologists, could be the breastplates.

Where did this equipment go? Just more government waste? The viking hat is the best out of the whole painting.
infact it looks like a cross between a viking and tommy trojan, who rides the white horse at the USC game. Moroni kind of looks like a young Mitt Romney.

How many heart surgerys have been done and kept grandparents ticking for another ten years. One of the things that I read, that leaped out at me, is that when ever someone was ill in the gospels it was because of demons yet now we know it's not demons but likely has some natural and predictable explanation and possible solution. The work of the Gods is being done everyday at hosptials.

Every time my grandmother starts hounding me about my reliance on science I point out that her heart transplant was not a faith-based operation.

I guess what I mean is that I find myself slowly losing hope that I can reconcile belief in God to reality. And once again for our lurking believers, I mean reality as I understand it. Your experience will necessarily differ.

Not so long ago I was floating along in a boat similar to yours. I have always enjoyed listening to a program called, "Speaking of Faith". A particular podcast that I listened to caused me to keep my mind and heart open to God's existence. And that when all is said and done, God is love.

Check this out Runtu:

The words of this man of faith make the words of PP, SomeShmo, Merc, and others that spew forth their unbelieving diatribes on this board, look like the gruntings coming from uneducated and shallow beasts.

On the flip side, the crap that is spewed forth, if looked at in isolation (here on this board), looks...well... it still looks like gruntings/rantings of those that if caught in the light of day or in the presence of a man such as Polkinghorn, would shy away and slink into the darkness.

Really smart people believe in God!!!

I've read many books written by smart people who believed in God. The Physics of Immortality, for example. Who is smarter than a physicist? Practically no one, in my opinion.

Of course, despite the fact that I had read books about quantum theory, I couldn't really grasp it in the meaningful way I needed to to evaluate these statements from believing scientists. I didn't have adequate background knowledge. It sure sounded good, though.

The real question is what people who really do possess the adequate background knowledge think about these claims by believing smart guys. Stephen Hawkins was once asked to comment about the book the Physics of Immortality in particular, and stated that he had no comment, because anything he had to say would be libelous.
