Come to think of it, before John Gee earned his PhD, there wasn't a single LDS Egyptologist defending the Book of Abraham. Nibley wasn't an Egyptologist yet he was revered as the smartest man in the Church for whom there was no worthy adversary (doctorate or not). So I guess you were completely taken in with the critical position until Gee came along? Somehow I doubt it, because somehow I don't believe you're interested in consistency.

I don't think Noah was credentialed to build a boat or Mohammed to lead an army. But God was.
So James White claims to be an instrument of God whereas Charlesworth does not.
In this case you don't prefer White over Charlesworth... why? We know why.
Again, it all boils down to whatevers upports the Church you support and whatever doesn't support the Churh you reject. That's what good bishops do, and you're playing the role well.
This gambit about credentials is just a side-show you're playing for us the same way apologists speak a lot about "reasoning" and "logic" until it is shown to contradict theological conclusions. You don't really believe it; at least not in a non-hypocritical manner.

I was thinking about you and your posting habits this morning cacheman. Thinking along the lines of that same thing.
Enjoying the cold weather?

Charlesworth. That's who I had the email exchange with. Thanks, Kevin. For whatever reason I couldn't remember his name.

Hi barrelomonkeys,
It sure chilled down fast, didn't it?
My posting habits have as much to do with my neurotic concerns about what I do or don't write, as they do with my demanding schedule. Plus, I've tired of much of the subject matter on these boards. I've been doing the LDS themed message board thing for a while now (since 2001). My interests have wandered off down other paths.
You still coming to school here?

Yes, it is rather chilly. Not looking forward to the winter weather.
Oh dear! I'm thinking I should have some neurotic concerns of my own about what I post. I have other neurotic concerns.
Yes, sir, I'm still a student. <edited cause I'm going to start being neurotic about what I post>
Are you enjoying the University?

A couple of thoughts:
First, why in the hell does Bob---of all people---think he is even remotely in a position to cast judgments on people's ability to make "scholarly" arguments? Bob Crockett, after all, was the guy who embarrassed himself very badly by totally warping a quote in his MMM article.
Second, who is Bob to be pointing out the use of argumentum ad hominem? He is the *king* of this! All of his attempts to discredit folks who post anonymously add up to what is perhaps the longest-running Ad Hominem Show in Mopologetic history.
