Oh, is FARMS Review actually published by BYU's theology department? If so, that's news to me. Because it would need to be for your proposed comparison to make sense. Right?

Once again, I know you won't and you can't. You are afraid to do so. I have issued this challenge several times here, and several times in the past.

Instead, you just want to pick apart my posts, challenge what I have said in the past.

Bob, I just supplied the name of a journal. I'm not sure what it is you're trying to compare.

Oh, look. Scratch is too afraid to rise to my challenge. He disingenuously pretends my challenge is something else.

No, I didn't ask for a "journal."

You keep castigating FARMS for saying its journal submission guidelines are "troublesome" or "disturbing" or whatever non-substantive noun you keep favoring to imply something evil.

So, why won't you accept my challenge? "Pick any large private university with a theological department and then we'll compare to FARMS Review the submission guidelines for all of the journals, not just theological, published by the university."

You're so empty. So afraid. Can't go out on a limb into uncharted territory. All you can do is pick apart posts people have previously made. Pick on somebody's character flaws (as you see it) when the substance is weak.

Well, here I am willing to challenge your "disturbing" and "troublesome" implications.

Your posts are so damned foolish. But I love them.

No, Bob. I was just asking for clarification, that's all.

No, I didn't ask for a "journal."

Well, gee, then---what *is* it you are asking for? It seems to me that I mentioned at least two private universities above. Do they have theological departments? I guess you'll have to check for yourself, counselor.

You keep castigating FARMS for saying its journal submission guidelines are "troublesome" or "disturbing" or whatever non-substantive noun you keep favoring to imply something evil.

Those are adjectives, Bob. Not nouns.

So, why won't you accept my challenge? "Pick any large private university with a theological department and then we'll compare to FARMS Review the submission guidelines for all of the journals, not just theological, published by the university."

Okay, sure, Bob. How about Notre Dame? Does their theology department publish a journal? Does BYU's theology department publish a journal, for that matter?

See: once again, it's unclear what you're asking. You say you want to compare submission guidelines. Well, why don't you track down the submission guidelines yourself? I already cited a specific journal. Was that somehow not good enough for you? Does it not work since the editors teach at different universities? Or, does that actually undermine whatever your very secret thesis is concerning FARMS? Do you need for the journal to be published directly out of a specific, private university's theology department? What?

Well, here I am willing to challenge your "disturbing" and "troublesome" implications.

Sure: go for it, Bob. If you have any real evidence, feel free to present it.

No, no: I agree, LoaP. It does (sort of) fit the #2. The problem is that this occurred something like 30 years ago, DCP apparently never apologized/atoned (hey, at least he felt bad!), and he has devoted his life for the past 25 or so years to "bashing." So: thank you for that very apt and fitting example, LoaP. You sure hit a grand slam with that one.

Where have you ever conceded a point to Dan Peterson?

I conceded that he likely was not some kind of "impressario" who personally and singlehandedly engineered the smear campaign against Mike Quinn. I also conceded that he likely does not get rich off of apologetics.

[Eyes rolling with the pompous verbosity.]

Looks like Notre Dame.

I'll do some digging.

And I have.

The Notre Dame Journal of Christian Philosophers has two different ways an article is submitted. One is invited, and one is by a referee process. The referee process is by blind review.

The journal does not explain who picks the referees, but I can predict they are hand-picked.

In my case with FARMS Review, I submitted one article by invitation, and one unsolicited

I am deeply troubled by the similarities between the Notre Dame journal and FARMS Review.

Deeply.

So you want DCP to see if he can track down some person in Germany or wherever and apologize?

I think his public mention of it is pretty sufficient, personally.

No. There are always exceptions. I know that when Boyd Petersen did the bibliography on his father-in-law, Hugh Nibley, he had many pages of personal mail which were not copied for the publisher.

I don't know how strict publishers follow such guidelines. My point is that FARMS is not the odd man out in requesting copies of sources.

No.

No? So how did the Chicago Press (or whoever it was who published MMM) verify the footnotes? Were they allowed access to the Vault? How does a reputable publisher like Chicago Press not check sources and footnotes?

I mean, we aren't talking FARMS here; Chicago Press is the Big Leagues! At least, that's the impression I get from Daniel... that Massacre at Mountain Meadows was published by one of the big boys in publishing, so we meer amateurs have nothing to say about it at all, let alone question it's editorial staff or fact checkers. (How can someone check facts, if the Vault is closed to them and there are no copies of the information used?)

There are always exceptions. I know that when Boyd Petersen did the bibliography on his father-in-law, Hugh Nibley, he had many pages of personal mail which were not copied for the publisher.

So guidelines are negociable... flexible... bendable... which means, of course, they can be fairly or unfairly applied, depending on the whim of the editor(s) and/or publisher(s). Which makes them meerly whimsical. Which means, among other things, they can be bought.

Good to know, thanks, Mike.

You are required to submit photocopies of your sources along with your essay. This is a condition of publication. For a book, please photocopy the page quoted, the title page, and the copyright page so that the following information is visible: quotation, page of quotation, title of book, author, editor or translator, publisher, place of publication, and publication year. Usually this data is found on the title page, copyright page, and page of the quotation.

Too bad no one seemed to require this of John Sorenson.

Massacre at Mountain Meadows, harmony, was published by Oxford University Press, not by the University of Chicago Press.

Perhaps you ought to look at a copy sometime?
