I'm not using the defense, but perhaps Dr. Peterson could explain.
From my perspective, there's a huge difference between a prayer or lighting a candle for the deceased and a ceremony conducted in a temple for the purpose of giving the deceased the opportunity to join your church. If there wasn't, I don't think the groups that have complained would have complained. Also, I don't think that catholics who pray or light candles for the deceased are doing so hoping that the deceased will accept catholicism in the afterlife. I think they perform those actions in remembrance and mourning. I could be wrong, though.
Therefore....what? If they don't believe in the Priesthood we're performing mind-numbing tasks where we mention their ancestor's name a few times and do a lot of pointless rituals. I don't get the offense.

Does this mean that each deceased person's proxy baptism is performed 22 times?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

I'm not arguing about whether it's offensive or not. I'm just pointing out that I don't think that the comparison between baptism for the dead and prayer/lighting candles for the dead is valid. That's all. Maybe Dr. Peterson can come up with a better comparison, one that would fit the situation more aptly.

Well for one thing yours is done in secret.. Anybody can walk into a catholic church and light a candle or listen to a prayer. Perception is everything.
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it. Nehor.. Nov 08, 2010

I think he means lenght of time .. but its been reported that the same names were passed around to multiple temples at one time so maybe..

You'd think us doing it in secret would lower the offensive nature of it. No one will ever know and if we don't have the Priesthood it's keeping the LDS people from having more spare time to steal candy from babies and push old ladies down the stairs.

No I would not think that.. Nor would most people I suspect.

Well most people are idiots so I'm okay with that.

Not really too surprised about that..
