don't worry. In 20 years or so, this incident never happened. In fact, in 20 years or so, the LDS church will have revised their history, and claim that they never discriminated against gays and never opposed gay marriage. The idea that gay men were once not allowed to walk on church property while holding hands and showing affection will be an anti-mormon lie.

If they do, they'll do it without me.

There will be plenty of old timers like you holding onto the old traditions. Just as some Mormons today think blacks can't hold the priesthood and polygamy is still the proper form of marriage.

Well, I won't be one of those oldtimers in the Church. I'll have my name removed and stop coming.

So am I supposed to act on what society tells me God might do so as to be politically correct?

I think God's about as likely to reveal that homosexuality is fine as He is to reveal that there's nothing wrong with fornication, blasphemy, steadying the ark, or indeed many other things that society feels is fine but God has always condemned.

I'd run out get an insurance policy against zombies, orcs, and Vogons since I consider all those things much more likely than that God is as wicked and deluded as mankind. If He is, then He's managed to pull the wool over my eyes so effectively that I won't be able to trust my brain, my senses, or anyone or anything else.

Bait and switch? I thought it was obvious that the church wanted it in order to stop protesters from disrupting wedding photos, etc. What, is the church supposed to play favorites in the name of political correctness by allowing gays to protest and make a scene while prohibiting religious zealots from doing the same?

The only issue here might be that of hypocrisy in saying that we treat homosexual the same as heterosexuals with regard to chastity. I believe we do--we would still condemn outward signs of inappropriate physical attraction (such as if it were adulterous or incestuous). Unfortunately for homosexuals, this is more apparent than it is for other cases.

Now, if we lived in a different culture where holding hands and kissing was more common between male friends/relatives without physical attraction, then perhaps homosexuals would go unnoticed too. It's not that kisses are inherently wrong, but rather that physical attraction (and especially public displays of such) is inappropriate in certain circumstances.

Lust without love is like barbeque sauce without steak or like geometry without arithmetic.

I think they tried this at BYU in the 70's but but it wasn't effective and therefore dropped.

Wow, it is amazing that some members still think "zapping them" is the answer. Just wow.
