Morrissey:
In the EV mindset, will not fornication get you tossed into the fiery lake as well as homosexuality?
In the EV mindset (and I speak from experience) merely being born will "get you tossed into the fiery lake as well as homosexuality" since we are
all born with a sin-nature.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23.
This is what I think many people don't get in their rush to condemn EV's for alleged hypocrisy. Most EV's that I know do not claim to be better than anyone else--merely forgiven, having confessed their sins and asked for forgiveness.
By the way, I struggle with the implications of the doctrine. I reject Calvinism which suggests that the sin-nature is so overpowering that humans do not even have the power to choose to seek God's forgiveness until God performs a work of regeneration in their heart. This makes God responsible for creating sinners without the capacity to accept the free gift spoken of in Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16 & elsewhere. That is the classic free-will vs. predestination debate and I definitely come down on the side of free will.
But the larger point is that "In the EV mindset"
any sin, no matter how great or how small, is sufficient to separate an individual from God and, by implication, "get you tossed into the fiery lake..." The only remedy for that "In the EV mindset" is to ask for Christ's forgiveness. And again, "In the EV mindset" we are
all born with a sin-nature--even Mother Teresa, Billy Graham and Carrie Prejean.
"...a pious lie, you know, has a great deal more influence with an ignorant people than a profane one."
- Sidney Rigdon, as quoted in the Quincy Whig, June 8, 1839, vol 2 #6.
