Darth J wrote:Stemelbow, you said that Buffalo and I are committing a straw man fallacy when we say that you think Joseph Smith could do whatever he wanted and he would still remain a prophet in your eyes.
The way that you show that we are misrepresenting your position is by addressing what I asked.
Honestly, if you're trying to define what "I think" and it disagrees with what "I think", as I've expressly said, then there is no need for your exercise. Your strawman has been exposed.
Plus, I have no interest in going on for pages, while you get hung up on every little tree, naïve to the fact that your in a forest. Nah thanks. Doesn't pique my interest today.

You?
No, you hostile goofball. I"m teasing him for boasting about your level of intelligence when he used the wrong word. Its ironic. Don't worry Themis can take a little razzing. He doesn't need you to make some fuss out of nothing in the big brother type of way.
I was not aware that misspelling or using the wrong word was an indicator of intelligence. Just as you incorrectly used to word ironic, since one, using then instead of than is not really an indicator of intelligence, and especially two, that I never said I was more intelligent than you, but that perhaps DJ was. :)
So what St. Augustine argued is that evil is the diminution of good. What we call evil is merely the absence, of varying degrees, of "goodness" as a property of being. St. Augustine argued that you could not have a world with good without the real possibility of evil because free agents have to have the ability to turn away from good. Evil therefore is a necessary consequence of the existence of good as they are "ontologically linked" in the sense that the degree that something is evil is the degree to which it is not infused with good.
I kinda spotted Droopy this argument based on what's on the page. I think that's the track he is going on, anyway. The main reason why it isn't popular is people don't conceive of "goodness" and "badness" in these terms. Based on the kind of moral theories that hold water, it'd be like defining wood in terms of the absence of air.

This theodicy is all but abandoned in theology for reasons I hope Droopy can address, but it does occasionally appear in popular fundamentalist apologetics like Ravi Zacharias' writings.

Think what yuo must Buffalo. I've already said that nothing would not be the right answer. I'm not going to right up some list...it could end up being too long to take the time.
Love ya tons, Stem
I ain't nuttin'. don't get all worked up on account of me.

Just one item will do, Stem. Otherwise, it's "nothing."

So you're saying if Joseph Smith were more ethical, he'd have lost his prophetic mantle? :D
