Posting on SeN is definitely listed in the DSM IV as a major symptom of mental illness.

That may have changed in the DSM V though.

Were most people non-religious? Did you spend most of your time tracting or street-contacting? I assume baptisms were uncommon.

Looking at the chronology of Mormonism in the Netherlands, I’m wondering why it was dedicated for missionary work in the early 1990s rather than decades earlier.

Our mission president told us that, at that time “atheism” was growing and that’s why the church decided to step up its efforts. That’s before my time (I served 2004-2006), but when I served the majority of people we encountered were non-religious. We talked to some Catholics (nice), and I even met a few members of a Dutch church (they referred to it as “NHK”).

The church’s efforts obviously weren’t working.

Back to English. I’m American, but I served a Norwegian mission in 2004. Norsk is a fun language, but I don’t get the chance to practice very often.

What happened during those four minutes that caused you to switch missions?

I realized, in those four minutes, that I was thinking deeply about a companion from Norway who was the only good companion I had. So good, I wanted to also learn his native language (I thought the gift of tongues was real and wanted to take advantage of it). I typed Norwegian instead of Netherlands.

I hang my head in ultimate shame and unworthiness, I prostrate myself before you and beg for your forgiveness.

That's like saying I went to BYU in Utah and four minutes later telling someone I froze in the Idaho winters during my college years. Did I forget I went to BYU and not BYU-i, because I had a roommate from Boise? Not likely.

I have no excuse. I brain bounced. I don’t know what you want me to say. I just wanted to get some consolation from some people here that I was not the only sufferer of an LDS mission.

Nolan, don't let people here give you a hard time. I really don't see why this should be a problem, as it happens all time. For example, I served in the Army in Vietnam but, because I know a guy from Kosovo, I sometimes get mixed up and tell people I served in the Peace Corps in Yugoslavia. I even bring up the language and cuisine of the former republic--even though I've never been there.
