Although I feel very sad and sorry for his daughter and ex-wife that they must be paraded around like this. Very sad.

And once again, victims are used as a means to an end.

What really bothers me about Karren's actions is that it seems to me that to him this is more about getting the church than helping victims. He hates the institution and his hatred for the institution is greater than his compassion for those who were hurt and must go through further pain for him to accomplish his agenda.

There are better ways.

That said, I suppose this is what can be expected because families dealing with this kind of stuff are generally made up of people who take actions like this. Not too surprising. But still: sad.

Well, that could be said of the prosecution of any who has committed an offence against another person, could it not?

Yes, indeed, the victim is an essential element in that process, a process which is not primarily directed towards the welfare of the victim, but towards the twin purposes of legal punishment: the expression of society's disapproval of the acts committed, and the protection of future potential victims by means of the deterrent effect of the punishment of the perpetrator.

How else could it be? Many victims do however consent to be witnesses for the prosecution, not because they think the process will be pleasant or even the reverse of harmful for them, but because they realize that it is in the overwhelming interest of past and future potential victims that justice shall be served.

If you are on Facebook, Ron uses his page for updates.

He also posts them to lifeaftermormonism.net, where he joined recently just so he could have access to posting features.

There is no comment feature on the lifeafter Mormonism page. I believe the Facebook page is open to comments and suggestions. Although of course Ron would be able to block anyone who is attacking his credibility or openly hostile to him.

He hasn't been combative from what I have seen. He just wants to get his story out. Although I don't know why all the details are necessary of every angle of his divorce, and also every aspect of his daughter's subjection to molestation.

At some point his daughter is going to need therapy, big time. His putting it off and postponing it is delaying the inevitable and prolonging the emotional damage to her psyche.

If she were my daughter I'd be searching high and low for a qualified competent therapist to help her deal with what she's been through. Making it so public now is more shaming for her even though she did nothing wrong. It would be like a rape victim being put on trial over and over to have to deal with the public scrutiny this case is now getting..

So I feel that more needs to be done to insure her privacy is being protected than what is currently happening. I fully understand Ron's need to tell his story, I don't see how that is going to cure his daughter from her emotional wounds. It might help Ron heal from his, but it may be exacerbating hers.

Maybe his dragging it out though it may serve his agenda is just rubbing salt in the wounds of K.

His ex-wife and her dad I really could care less about at this point. They brought on some of what's ongoing by their actions as well. It's the self interest of the adults that is affecting the children still. K is the one who doesn't deserve any of the attention this case is getting. Or the sons. They're still being pitted against the other parent. When does it end? Maybe it's time to call a truce and let the children heal.

If Ron wants to write a tell-all like he's been doing, it might serve him and K better to put it in book form. Instead of constant feeding it to the newstreams of the social sites he's a regular contributor.

I'm not trying to demonize Ron. I just don't see how making this an ongoing news item on his social feed is helping his daughter get past the abuse and victimization. He wasn't a victim of a sexual act by grandpa; K was. It's very hard to empathize with a young woman even as her father when he doesn't see the world through her eyes. For her sake I hope he lets this go at some point.

When my parents divorced it was acrimonial, and they didn't part amicably. In some ways they used their children as pawns pitting us against each parent. But we grew up, and realized each parent was flawed and imperfect and were able to forgive them and accept them despite their limitations. They each moved on with their lives, got remarried and stayed with their respective other spouses until death did they part.

They were able to move on. I can't imagine what hell it would feel like for the daughter to have no relationship with her mother or grandparents now. And still be made to endure the social media frenzy this blogging is inciting. I'll keep their family in prayer because I support Ron in some respects, but see another need for his daughter to be able to heal - and she can't with this continually haunting her every waking moment.

K did nothing wrong. She has nothing to feel guilty about. If this highlights the church ineptitude with dealing with child abuse and its clear naivity in dealing with pedophiles and as a consequence will help the church to change its policies and procedures then that is a good thing.

An apology from Elder Mickelsen would go a long, long way in helping all concerned to move on.

This is the Internet age. Karren's daughter will face this every time someone googles her for the rest of her life. She will probably have to change her name because chances are she isn't going to want every potential employer to be thinking about this while considering whether or not to bring her in for an interview.

I read somewhere that she's married. If that doesn't end up working out, she's going to have to face this by date 2.

Hard.

It is not her responsibility to sacrifice this much to save the Mormon world and help bring more safety to children. That's the responsibility of church leadership.
