Re: The artificial intelligence MEGATHREAD
When I first started researching internet trolling, the common advice was "ignore the troll." However, as I delved deeper into academic studies of online behavior, a different take on the issue emerged. Ignoring trolls doesn't stop the trolling, which still can disrupt a community. Calmly acknowledging the trolling behavior without engaging the troll emotionally or directly is a more useful long-term strategy in terms of preserving community cohesiveness and camaraderie. It doesn't stop the trolling, but it seems to render toothless the strategies of stereotyping, bigotry, and malicious rule-breaking. In other words, laugh at the trolling, and then carry on.Limnor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:03 amI saw that, and understand the frustration. What’s harder for me to understand is why he would keep coming back year after year and perform essentially the same way.Marcus wrote: ↑Fri Dec 05, 2025 11:56 pmHe's still stereotyping in exactly the same manner 18 years later. Telling people who believe differently than him what's wrong with their character hasn't evolved either, even though just yesterday he feigned an apology to black Moclips, saying it was 'off the cuff'.
'Off the cuff' doesn't cut it when it's been mentalgymnast's go-to trolling bigotry for decades.
Frankly, it’s hard for me to follow along with any discussion with him because it’s almost always the same, and that view reflects a mere 3-4 months of exchanging with him.
I’m surprised sometimes when people respond to him, myself included, because it’s such a waste of time.
Your adjunct work seems to have experimentally reached a similar conclusion, and I am pleased to inform you that permission to move forward with your research at Cassius has been granted. Requisite funds are at Dr. Scratch's discretion.
(Small hint, at this time of the year the dear Doctor is most amenable to receiving really top notch Irish coffees at various--and many-- hours of the day. My recommendation: construct them with Tullamore Dew.)

Do we keep playing? If so, I think you're on your own at this point.
I've been homebound since Tuesday with a sore throat and body fatigue. I'm kind of wasted now that the day is moving on. This has been fun, even enlightening, but I think I need to rest.![]()
Thanks for playing!
Best.

Dear Esteemed Colleague Marcus,
I extend my sincere gratitude for your encouraging note regarding my modest contributions to the study of troll mitigation and community resistance within the greater sphere of Mormon studies.
Your notice that permission to advance my studies has been granted fills this junior researcher with both professional zeal and the faint but resounding hope that Father may, at long last, nod approvingly when my name is mentioned at the supper table. This news reinforces my earnest desire of eventually qualifying for a chair, or at least a sturdy folding table.
Regarding the discretionary authority of the revered Dr. Scratch, I appreciate the intelligence. Through your hint, and faculty folklore, I have realized the following as a “best practice” is to proffer high-grade Irish Coffee (Tullamore Dew variant), preferably at dawn, dusk, and whatever interval he has been heard to refer as “third breakfast.”
Please consider this my formal expression of gratitude and affirmation that further adjunct research will proceed with expected rigor and only the mildest amount of mischief.
Respectfully submitted,
Winston Mathonihah Limnor

It's extremely interesting to watch the dynamics of what is going on here.
If I wasn't watching it in real time I wouldn't believe it. It takes a village.
Entertaining bunch of folks.

Re: The artificial intelligence MEGATHREAD
Actually, I think there’s been a misunderstanding, or maybe we are talking past each other. I never said I was or was’t using any tools at all, and certainly not the kind of simplistic “AI shortcut” you’re implying.
And even if I had used something like that (which isn’t what I did), it wouldn’t automatically mean my argument is invalid. The real issue isn’t whether some assistance was involved, but whether the substance of what I said engages the topic meaningfully. If we can focus on that instead of getting hung up on labels like “BS,” I’m happy to continue the conversation in good faith. Or we can just table it.
Yours and etc, WML

Oh, and as evidence for the ability to conduct “pre-prepared comments rapidly,” please see below:
I’m not sure why you’re so focused on whether I’m using AI. That seems like a distraction from the real issues. But even if I did use some tools (I didn’t), that wouldn’t change the sincerity of my position. I do find it interesting that instead of engaging my argument, you’re attacking how fast I responded. I try to come here in good faith, and I’d hope others would extend the same courtesy.
You’re just easily predictable, MG.

Are these the dynamics that mentalgymnast has been stereotyping for decades? He wrote this in 2007:
Back to today..._mentalgymnast wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2007 6:35 am...The PP's, Scratch's, Bond's, Shades of this board have issues because they have not been able to move beyond a primary/seminary outlook towards the world and the church. They will say they have, but I honestly don't believe this to be the case. They are black/white thinkers...if you can call it thinking...
Is this is why mentalgymnast has disparaged this 'village' for decades? He's just jealous of how much fun we have??mg wrote: If I wasn't watching it in real time I wouldn't believe it. It takes a village.

Mentalgymnast's pattern of stereotyping and disparagement has been the same for decades. Today's excuse of "Oops, sorry, I'm just human" doesn't cut it. A multiple decade's long pattern of extremely consistent, disparaging and stereotypical trolling techniques has to have come from something else.
