I went to Kanazawa a couple of times for zone conferences, but that's it. I never got to Yokkaichi.

Shiroko must've been shut down by the time I got there, since I've never heard of it. Although Toyohashi was still open, I never made it there, either.

Was Komaki still an active area when you were there?

The places I was in were (in order) Fukutoku, Okazaki, Inuyama, Takefu, and Meito-Kita.

I don't remember Komaki. I believe Shiroko-cho was actually part of Suzuka city in Mie-ken. Okazaki was close to somewhere I was stationed, because I know I've been to the castle there.

No, but I really wish I had.

As do I...but with the weakness of the dollar, it's outrageously expensive today. Someday, I'll go during sakura season...so beautiful then!

Don't remind me... I seem to be the only person who got stuck with the Quilter genes.

Truth be told, I'm much more Quilter myself. The stocky, "covered with body hair" heritage won out, tragically. I'm just hoping for some of that Johnson longevity. My mom, at 86, still looks like she could go another 20.

Joel (my brother... don't know if you know him or not) went to Sopporo (sp?) on his mission. Every picture would have this 6'3" giant.

Ah, Sapporo. He would have been called one of the "chosen frozen" then. My nephew (Max's son Tyler) was there (mid '90s?). I'd love to go see the ice festival there.

Have you (or Shades) ever been back since your mission(s)?

No, and it really irks me. We take a trip every year, but Japan has not made it onto the schedule yet. We've been to Europe four times in the last ten years, and haven't hit Asia once. I'm going to have to be more assertive, because that has to change. I'm beginning to worry that my Spanish and German are better than my Japanese.

Yes, I had a pure toe-head dooryo in Kobe (78) that got so many looks you'd think he was a celebrity! He got us alotta free meals and "foots-in-the-door," but not many baptisms. They were more interested in him than our message....

Then there are the sister missionaries. In one area, my district included a pair of tall (for Asia -- probably 5'8"), blonde, blue-eyed 'sisters' who received an incredible amount of attention and open-mouthed stares.

PS: So much about Japan. A friend, is now a Mission Pres there. He once called me into his Bishop's office to censor me for saying, "...can't wait for my daughters to be Priestesses..." LOL! "Those were the days, my friend..." but alas they are ending.

As you can see, I am well prepared for our little Apostate vs. Faithful war. Over my left shoulder is the William Wallace monument, which features his huge sword hung above the doorway. Long since rotted away is the human flesh leather hilt, skinned from the heel to top head of the man who killed his wife, as seen in the movie "Braveheart".
