I think the answer is yes so, isn't a Temple Recommend a non-negotiable condition of employment with BYU?

In which case, Light Fingered Lifty Lund just lost his job.

I wonder if Deseret News or Mormon Times will run the story...

From, what I've read, he was retired. Maybe he is still with the Maxwell Inst.?

I don't know about the Desert News, but the Cougar Board has it, so the local Utah news will have it soon.

Interestingly, CNN has a story on their website, but they don't name Lund. Just stating that the name of the accused has not been released.

As a right winger, you're duty bound to take Israel's side in any conflict. Get your priorities straight.

I doubt he'll be ex'ed. It's not like he commited apostacy.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

i am surprised at how gullible Mormon tourists are- they look up to the tour guide leaders as idols, particularly, if they have a church/BYU connection.
I recall a Book of Mormon land tour with 70 Mormons and me-the nevermo accompanying tbm my wife. The tour sucked but the hotels and coffee were 4 star.

The tour guide told the story that "it came to pass" somehow was written on a mayan glyph; hundreds of leather like book marks were sold on the tour for 5 dollars a pop.-great Christmas gifts for the family "Ka ching"- lets see 400 bookmarks at 5 dollars each is 2 grand.

A few musings.

John Lund has written a dozen or so Deseret Book best sellers. John Lund who, with Dan Peterson, has crafted a whole cottage industry of tours of the Book of Mormon lands and Israel that target and play off gullible dupes.

Why was he trafficking and smuggling artifacts out of Israel? Couldn’t he have applied for a proper permit? Surely, those permits aren’t that hard to get. Dr. Lund is supposed to be an expert on Egyptian and Israeli issues. Didn’t he know that a permit should be required to sell such items and take them out of the country?

Very interesting.

Let’s put this in a context we can better identify with. This is analogous to an LDS missionary or general authority in Korea illegally trying to take several suitcases full of coins, pins, combs, vases, dolmen stones, and pre-Buddhist religious bric-a-brac, all of which predate the Unified Shilla Period by centuries, out of Korea.

Is Lund going to go back to face his charges, or will he simply remain in the U.S. and avoid traveling to Israel in the future? Will FARMS try to present an apology to defend Lund’s actions?

Maybe Thomas S. Monson is gearing up to do some translation?

Monson and his crew don't translate anymore. That is the job of the apologists now.

It's best to never tell the truth on MAD.

This article contains more of Lund's side of the story. Decide for yourself.
