Shades can accuse her and defend himself all he wants, but if he doesn't allow Jersey Girl to challenge his version(which she strongly disputes) and defend herself, he's as bad as MADB.

If he were as bad as bad as MAD this criticism of his moderation policies would be deleted, and the offending posters banned.

Why not just copy and paste her side of the story?

I see your point. But one positive effect it does have is that it keeps people from making legal threats as a means to try to blackmail the moderators into taking action.
I think you make a good point. However, I'm not sure that the benefits of the potential "deterrent" you describe outweigh the possibility of giving someone additional motivation to follow through on a legal threat.

No,that's not reasonable, but I bet there are a lot of posters on this board who wished that the moderators at MADB would have allowed them to defend themselves, at least in PM's.

I think you need to recognize that I'm not speaking in generalities. I'm referring to a specific case. Jersey Girl was permanently banned from this board--I think only one other person has been banned so that's a pretty big deal--this board started out with a no banning policy. Jersey Girl was accused of trying to sue Shades and destroy his livelihood, harm his family-- not just bring the board down. She strongly disputes this claim and he continues to put this forward when he writes posts to justify her permanent banishment. Without the opportunity to defend herself against his claims, newbies are indoctrinated into the belief that she's some kind of dangerous psycho.
I know Jersey Girl, she's been on this board and MADB as long as I have--I post with her on another board and considering Shades' claims, you'd think no one would dare have her on their board, but the fact is, too many others don't see her as the threat Shades claimed she is.

I think the accusations against her are serious and when he resurrects them, and she has no way to respond and challenge them, it's pretty unfair. The way I see it, he has two options. He could unbann her or he can choose to not discuss the particulars of her banning on the public board. It's his call.

So, should we allow Derrick back to put his case forward?

If Derrick complained that people were maligning him on this board, it would be best not to discuss him, in my opinion.

Yes, why not? Go ask Jersey Girl to write something up and paste it here. The time-to-reply may be a little longer than normal, but I think we could cut her some slack. Jersey Girl can read this board without a problem. Use a text editor to reply, give the replies to Liz or Alter Idem to post, and voila, Jersey is back defending her good name.

Of course, it's much easier to perpetuate a mythology of wrongdoing if you hide behind the veil and bellyache to your friends all day...

Yes she does:

1) Jersey Girl can read the board
2) Jersey Girl can use a text editor to craft a reply
3) Liz or Alter Idem or any of her friends can post on her behalf
4) We can respond
5) Goto 1)

Easy-peasey.

There's a lot more to this than the posts you pulled up. I don't expect you to understand why some of us disagree with what was done, but I'll tell you we have good reasons.

I never claimed to have any understanding of the bigger picture. I was responding specifically to the claims that she never would have hurt anyone and that she didn't threaten legal action. She did threaten legal action right there in the public thread. Whether she was serious or made any attempt to follow through I have no idea. Also, I never made any value judgment as to whether banning her was the right call taking everything else into account, and I won't, either, because I don't know the bigger picture. But if those things had been said by a new poster I would not be at all surprised to see them banned.

Alter Idem wrote:As long as she cannot defend herself, he should not post his justification for what he did. If he's so sure he did what was right and best for the board, then he should not feel the need to explain himself, but should ignore the grumblings. That would be the right thing to do.

When he insists on responding by once again posting his justification for banning her, he has unfairly maligned her because she can't dispute his accusations. This kind of thing happened at MADB and it was wrong. When it happens here, it's wrong too.

Look, why are you being so Goddamn stupid? If Shades didn't stick up for himself, board members would be crying and bitching about his silence and crucify his ass to a tree.

Give it a rest. For Christ bloody sake. Jesus!!! (Would you like some nails and a hammer?) Pound, pound, pound.

Shades does allow cut and pastes from other boards, though he does request links, which couldn't be done to Liz's board. I'm not sure if Jersey Girl would want to do this, but if she did and Shades was okay with it, I'd post her responses here for her. But I'm not sure how Shades would feel about this since he did ban her from here.
