Re: Could this happen? Airing of grievances & simple apologi
Thanks friends!
It’s all good. I get it. Some people don’t change and that’s OK. Still worth trying.
After all, even Darth Vader turned at the very end to save Luke.

Exiled also captured the underlying issue Doc Cam is referring to, it’s worth another look:
“From an outside perspective of someone who hasn't been a part of the back and forth over the years, I think the problem lies with having to defend or self-appointing oneself to defend Mormonism, a religion with patently false claims. Our apologist brothers over at sic et non must have faced a lot of ridicule from the outside world for being out front defending the indefensible over the years.”

Re: Could this happen? Airing of grievances & simple apologi
We had a discussion here a while ago about how my brother considered Mormonism to be "the most obviously made-up religion" and I found I couldn't help agreeing, even though I'm generally pretty generous in conceding that weird beliefs could be reasonable from some point of view. Lately it has occurred to me, though, that being "obviously made-up" is a bit paradoxical. If you're making up a religion you normally try hard to make it seem not-made-up. You could almost mount an apologetic argument from this. Joseph Smith must have been a true prophet because a con artist would surely have done better than that.
I think this is really only an apparent paradox, however. Smith did quite a good job of making up a religion that would appeal to his contemporaries—and that's precisely why his religion looks so phony today.

Gadianton:
And so if you go through with this, I would strongly suggest that you hold him to "good faith" moderation of his blog, and have a keen sense IF he tries to beat the system by having the war continued by other means or other parties.
Speaking of “good faith moderation,” I would assume Midgley’s description of this board, left up for 15 hours now, would not qualify:
Louis Midgley Jordan Rudd

Jordan:
You turned up today for the very first time. We have a batch of fake doctors and professors who come to Professor Peterson's blog to do their very best to stink up the place. One of these calls himself gemli, and he is own very own Village Atheist. By that I mean that he is a radical, dogmatic very religious atheist. He is not the least bit interested in the faith of Latter-day Saint, or in the actual faith of any other Christians, or Jew, or Muslim. What he attributes to anyone who has faith in God does not resemble what any of these versions of faith in God actually belief. He is constantly bashing away at a Straw Man, which is a fatal logical fallacy. He has posted well over five thousand times setting out his dogmatic atheist faith.
In addition, there is also a disgusting message board where two fake doctors are obsessed with Professor Peterson. And one or both of them, or one of the inmates in that rat's nest, has created over twenty fake doctors and professors who, it seems, can upvote any item that they realize is weird, juvenile, disgusting. They actually think that this is cute.
There are some other fake doctors. One of my favorites posts under a handle that actually means Little Old Donkey.
When you turned up some seemed to have wondered if you were an invention of the rabble on this miserable message board. I hope that this will explain the concern that you are merely still another one of this "Squad" of stupidity.

re: this and also the new "gas" example in the 10x thread.
Suddenly, Gemli is now "one of these" fake doctors. Just days ago, he was praising Gemli for not being one of the fake doctors, when he hoped it would serve his purpose. This is classic abuse mentality. Praise and encourage the person, and when it doesn't work out like you wanted, punish them all the more.

Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.
LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

You're welcome.

Funny that the apology comes over a relatively mild accusation in the "Comments" section of a mostly unremarkable blog--and only after money is offered, no less. I guess it's okay to do that, since the offense is so minor, and, really, it's like the worst thing the person in question has ever done.

Well, we know, in true Joseph Smith fashion, that money to them is far more important than truth. And after they get the dough, they will resort right back to their normal mode of spiritual behavior.

Sorry, I'm not sure if this is the right thread for it, but this thread Lemmie cited is epic. Jordan Rudd is a genius.
Lol. Now hold on a second. I'm having a really hard time placing who it is who has referred to him as "Mr." Can someone fill me in? If it's been done, I'm thinking on a rare occasion. Certainly, it's an untruth that "some" of his critics "call" him by "Mr." as in, regularly address him that way.
Dr. Moore, I submit this as an example of how our subject takes controversy that involves others and makes it about him, in order to score victim status points.
Lol.

I was, I confess, probing a bit to see whether your reference to me as "Mr." was meant as a jab. I don't really care for titles all that much, but some of my critics, I think, like to call me "Mr." as a way of symbolically stripping me, in their view, of academic respectability, etc. It's always seemed rather childish to me.

Notice too how Jared is sticking right to his guns and STAYING ON TOPIC, while everyone else is harping about various studies done by scholars of all stripes in all fields. Notice how he just says that is irrelevant and continues to bring up WHAT the Book of Mormon actually says itself, and all Peterson can say is "I see no reason to read it that way."
Jared needs to ask Peterson then, how HE reads it, and lets examine whose understanding is more in line with the prophets teachings. HA! Peterson is as usual completely non committal, but apparently thinking by simply saying its not how he reads it at all that he is refuting it. He isn't. And Midgley? I mean I am so blessed in these latter days to have an internet Mormon show me what professional clowning is all about, and that, for free.
