This might become a problem for the church. It’s a fork, a dilemma.

Praying to a Heavenly Mother as well as to a Father must make sense from a Mormon point of view, unless the modern Church is really willing to double down on male superiority so hard as to make it apply to eternally exalted beings...
They are. Male superiority is baked into the entire Mormon story.

Yeah, I’ve been seeing that. The Catholics don’t have women priests (and that’s absurd enough), but most Catholic men aren’t priests, either. Every Mormon man getting “the priesthood”, but no woman ever, is kind of hard to explain.

So maybe I’m wrong in thinking that Heavenly Mother is an especially big land mine for the Church. Maybe they’ve already crossed that bridge with the Priesthood and it will just be routine for the Brethren to declare that Heavenly Mother(s) exist but they’re all too busy working in the heavenly kitchen barefoot and pregnant to listen to prayers or hymns.

I’d like to think that it won’t be that easy.

Too "sacred" to be talked about is what I heard growing up, like a variation of the 'putting women on a pedestal' line. I think that has been discussed enough by now that most people don't buy it, so silence seems to have been the recent approach. It is a landmine, I agree. It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.

The Oak's video has hit believers media and it is a scattered mess illustrating how disjointed general members feel and think about multiple mothers. https://old.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comme ... _audience/

Exmo might be an odd sample of Mormon reactions. I checked the mad board and found an active discussion. It was bubbling along on close to the ho hum level.

 I can't tell because your humor is very dry (which I love, by the way) but do you mean the exmo reddit is unusual, or not? (I get the 'ho hum level' comment but I wasn't sure about the exmo one.)

Huckleberry, it is much deeper than the one link to exmormon reddit. Check out Jazzmine Rappleye's Instagram post regarding this to see the vast disparity between believers.

Apologists could explain why the Heavenly Mothers do not deserve the priesthood, but not Oaks. He would say we do not know because God does not reveal such things to us.

Marcus, your question gives me a moment of uncertainty, can I identify usual Mormon reaction? Reading some of the link above a general tenor is there. I read someone observe that polygamy is f ING weird. That comment may be unsurprising in many locations but unheard amongst active Mormon believers.

What I have found is that very young Mormons do not know their history. I mentioned once on reddit that my non-lds inlaws were not allowed at my wedding and that I regretted the pain that caused, a Mormon came on and said that is absolutely not true, our religion does not exclude people, you can marry in a public ceremony and later that day go to temple, etc. After a few more exchanges I asked how old they were, they were barely in college, and I realized they just did not know how it used to be, because when things do slightly change, the lds religion just pretends it was always that way.

So I agree, active older members may respond one way, but Mormons are very good at gaslighting their younger members.
