You are just as dogmatic as the next person. ;)

Regards,
MG
I don’t think that’s dogmatism so much as acknowledging agency. Saying someone can choose to be tricked isn’t the same as declaring what must be true—it’s just noting that trust can persist even when warning signs are visible. Dogmatism would be insisting that one must draw the same conclusion I do.
I'm glad you agree that we can have different points of view and both be 'right'. ;)

Regards,
MG

Dogmatism - the tendency to lay down principles as undeniably true, without consideration of evidence or the opinions of others. Sounds familiar...

If only I had had your dad's wisdom ...
Well, someone has to do the job, though, right? I mean, if the LDS Church exists, then someone in there is going to do that job, and I would hope that better people would agree to do it now and then. People like you. I fear that too many people do that job for the wrong reasons. Better a good man do it grudgingly than a bad man do it eagerly.

Thanks for that, Rev - your kind remarks are more than I merit. I would characterise my reasons more as a mixture of ignorance and hubris :(

I remember when an investigator told me I would be the prophet of the LDS Church one day. I blush to think that I took the person seriously at the time. As you say, ignorance and hubris.

Each General Conference, when it is time to sustain the General Authorities, I raise my hand in opposition, and then report my disapproval to my stake president, with a request to have my vote counted in the official records.

I would change that practice in a heartbeat if Elder Lumen Kishkumen were proposed for any GA position. I'd still likely oppose the rest, but this would be a worthy exception to make!

You guys are too nice. The best place for me is where I am. An observer who participates in a conversation and tries not to add to the woes of others.
