Yeah, you're right. Poor charity. I feel so bad for her. I can only imagine how she is weeping in regret over this whole misunderstanding and praying that we will let bygones be bygones.

You know. I'm all broken up over here. How could I have been so eager to judge charity of all people? I simply can't imagine why I would think that she was talking smack about Kevin. Really, what an imagination I have.

Thing is, I don't really think it matters what I think as far as charity is concerned. I can't remember it ever mattering to her. And furthermore, the whole thing stinks. Gloating over others' loss of faith is what is truly disgusting. I am not sorry for reading her that way in the least.

Agreed. That's one thing I've never understood. There's not even the least bit of sorrow over someone's lost faith among a lot of apologists. Just yesterday Dr. Peterson repeated his disdain for people who feel that the church did not tell them all the pertinent facts about itself. I don't understand that attitude at all.

to Charity, it's not rumor-mongering if the person is unnamed.

::::church lady voice:::: How conveeeeenient. ;)

Wonder how this would fly with believers?

1 - critic gets bested in debate by believer
2 - critic turns believer
3 - critics accuse former critic of turning believer simply to assuage his ego

Bear with me, I know numbers one and two are sheer fantasy, but use your imagination! (snicker)
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

I've seen unprepared critics get bested. Heck, if I say so myself, I made an EV pastor look rather foolish a couple of years ago when he was attacking Mormonism and I was still defending it.

But yeah, 2 is snicker-worthy.

That's because we're just lazy, stupid people who wallow in victimhood. The church is better off without us.

Easy for you to say now, but just wait until your flesh is bubbling and peeling off your skin in hell.

THEN your knee will bow!!

Yes, in that great day, the one Coggins and many others have wet dreams about, I will be pleading for mercy as I am whipped with the chains of a thousand apologists!

So let me get this straight. Since Charity is guilty of talking ill about critics in general (or at least an unnamed critic in the context of why some critics are as they are), it is therefore just to blame her for gossiping about a specific someone and furthermore of lying about it? The latter is all I'm trying to defend her against. Sorry, but I'm the kinda guy who likes to make sure that you aren't blamed for things you didn't do, even if you are guilty of other things which are perhaps just as bad.

The reason I don't wish for this to keep going is because I do not think she has malicoius intents. Yes, I realize that there may be an inequality in how some apologists would treat critics who did the same things as Charity. Even so, I beileve I personally would extend the same liberty to someone no matter the team. I try to judge on intent. Do I gloat over others' loss of faith? I don't believe I do and I don't much like those stories myself. Goodness knows I have my own demons to battle with regards to faith. Goodness also knows that I've said some really boneheaded things in life. Taking both my battles of faith and my boneheaded moves into account is a reason why I try to extend some amount of sympathy to Charity's mistake and also not try to paint the critics.

Just my $.02, but it's value in your currency may vary widely.

Edit to add: No, I'm not blaming anyone for having assumed that Charity was talking about Kevin Graham. At first glance it seemed like it to me as well.
