Why do you think this?
in my opinion, the amount of heartache that is at stake here is HUGE. Why would you want to rip that apart, even if you think you are doing a service in your eyes?
I think Tal's advice is the best. Ask them the simple question, "If I could prove that the church is false, would you want to hear it?" If they do not, then leave them alone!
What harm are they doing by coming into your home?
Yes, the amount of heartache is huge, but it's still for the best.
Think of the amount of pain a drunk has to withstand on the road to recovery. Does that mean you shouldn't talk them out of drinking?
Besides, Merc is being waaaaay more tolerant than I would be. Nobody is coming into my home and spouting off obvious rubbish to my family members. I don't let people pray in my house either. If they want to talk to themselves or the sky, they can do it outside. I have little patience for that crap. End of story.
So if your wife or child wishes to pray do you make them go outside? Sort of like I do to my dad when he visits and wants to smoke a cigarette.

Good analogy!

I lost touch with three of the four families. The fourth is still happily active.
Wait....your sample set of, I believe your words were 'all of them', is....4???
And all of the others that didn't get the testimony just didn't take it seriously...uh huh.
Anyone that would take the Book of Mormon/Joseph Smith story seriously is looking for religion. Had the JW's beat you to the door, they would probably be JW's right now.
In my experiece as a missionary I found most would not read or pray about the Book of Mormon. And honestly, many who did joined. But they were the ones most interested anyway. And to answer Merc's question on how many stayed, well I was discussing this with my wife a couple days ago. Out of the 48 people I was instrumental in teaching and baptizing, and add two more that were baptized after I went home, so 50, I figure maybe 10-15 are still active today or were active when they passed away-this was an older couple who joined in their 70's.

Hmmm
That was not my intent. :-(
Unintended consequences and all that. Nevertheless, this exchange made me laugh.
Yes, it really was a good analogy. I imagine a study could be conducted which shows that second-hand prayer is worse for your health that first-hand, even though both increase the chances of logic-cancer.
To answer your question, Jason, my wife and daughter have no desire to talk to invisible things except when messing around, so it's not a problem I have to face with them. I married a sensible woman, and we're raising a sensible girl. We all live in a no-prayer zone.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
