How can both of these things be true?????

You're making it sound like Schryver is just making s*** up about everything!!!!!!

jeez you're an idiot. It can be true that no one cares about this place and his posts on this place could have been the cause for Maxwell folks to not publish his paper. Its not literally "nobody". I mean you're a nobody but that's not to be taken literally, DJ.

You mean, it could be that this is an obscure message board that nobody cares about, and yet it influences the decision of the premier LDS apologetic organization at a church-owned university about whether to publish a game-changing theory that indirectly refutes criticism of the Book of Abraham?

Yes, I see how both of those positions are entirely consistent..........

So, in your estimation, what exactly did Schryver mean by "obscure"? Obscure enough to torpedo his mangum opus?

You're really that vested in finding a reason other than the substance of his work for why it hasn't been published, are you?

Considering his posts here were degrading to women, I think, since they are available, the Maxwell Institute would put much weight on the posts nicely organized by MsJack. The Maxwell Institute, I'm sure, doens't want to be associated with that.

I'm not vested at all. I'm saying its quite possible Maxwell Institute pulled the plug on the basis of his posting here. They don't want anything to do with any semblance of mysogeny, I'm sure.

Stem, I'm concerned about the ratio of insults to substance you've been contributing lately. Are you okay?

Perhaps you're right. Maybe if William Schryver had been a Mormon leader who had been dead for 150 years, then his character would be unimpeachable as far as apologists would be concerned.

However, that still fails to address the inconsistency of Schryver never failing to assert that this is just an obscure message board, and yet a thread or threads here would be capable of influencing the decision of the institution he is trying to get published with.

So, again, what do you think Schryver meant by "obscure," since it was obviously pejorative, but yet he also wants to attribute his non-publication to the influence of this board?

'course I'm okay. the insults are lobbed at DJ, you'll make note. that dude can't handle the truth--but I think he can so I lob them for his benefit. I don't universally dispense them.

Nah, I don't think so. Like apologists love to say, this board is a bit of a backwater in the real world. I'm sure the Maxwell Institute's guidelines for accepting papers for publication do not include taking into consideration the opinions of the MDB.

It makes an excuse for Will, but not a very believable one. I think he may be trying to make himself a martyr rather than admit to his friends that his work was not up to publication standards.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Sure he meant to suggest that some poeple here seem to take this place far to seriously and so he made it clear it doesn't have a great audience. Its rather obscure in that sense. I can see that. How many poeople post here regularly? Not many. How many read along? Probably not many.

But since his words were recorded here, it wouldn't take much to put them out there for others to see. Anyone could then get a hold of his postings from here to attack the Maxwell Institute.

that's kind of funny considering many complaints from people here is that maxwell doesn't have much of a publication standard.

Anyway, it doesn't mean people would have to come here to see the words. if they published it the postings of will could have been sent all over the internet.

Being persecuted for crying repentance unto the stiff-necked and proud, who set at naught the words of the prophets, is as old as time. Like Nephi being abused by Laman and Lemuel, even so does Stemelbow seek to abuse me.
