It's official LDS doctrine since at least the two-part Sorenson article.

I regret to inform you of the following disclaimer in Sorenson's Ensign article:

Digging into the Book of Mormon: Our Changing Understanding of Ancient America and Its Scripture
John L. Sorenson, September 1984 Ensign

The purpose of this article and the one to follow is to sketch a few vivid examples of changes in how some Latter-day Saint scholars view the Book of Mormon in the light of new theories and discoveries about the past. These articles are not intended to be an expression of official Church teachings, but on the basis of my own research and study, I have thought this new information to be worth consideration.

So, then, the doctrine is settled, as outlined by apostles and prophets in correlated church publications. If nothing else, having it as mere opinion makes it impossible to pin the serious problems with the LGT on the church.

that's classic, I am assuming that is code speak for "our old theories have now been proven false so it's time to come up with some new ones"
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.

I'm a little worried. If you can't trust bc to give us the straight scoop on doctrine, who can you trust?

As long as you follow the prophet and don't go astray it doesn't matter. As long as the we begin and end with "The Church is TRUE" all is well. All is well.

Looks like some excavation is going on at a small hill here in Provo. Third Cumorah, perhaps?
