That's probably an accurate assessment. So much of our identity was tied up in being a Mormon it was easy to take "attacks" against the church personally and personal affronts as attacks on the church. When you think you're fighting a battle for the souls of all the earth you tend to get a little confused as to what is important and what is not.

I think it is admirable to stick up for what is right, but when one stoops to perpetrating wrongs in that cause, then one has lost sight of the end goal.

If you actually take the time to read what Kishkumen writes, you will find that not only is he erudite, he weighs arguments carefully and is as prone to come down on the "Mormon" side of an issue as he is to come down on the other.
The one thing those who read Kishkumen can agree on is that, regardless of whether you agree with him, he does believe everything he says and can adduce good reasons for so believing.
This board has quite a few people like that.
Maybe you should get to know them?

Yes, Kish has made it clear just how much he wants me to get to know him. I have gotten to know that his erudition takes a back seat to his intense personal animosity.
Besides that, if I want to know someone who thinks it's the pinnacle of courageous behaviour to "stand up" to any of the few isolated voices here that don't subscribe to the party line, I can probably find that kind of sterling character by going to a local schoolyard and seeing who the biggest bully is.

Watch what you say about DCP. According to Facebook.com he is a Friend of mine :) And recently I've been hemoraging Facebook friends due to some controversial stuff I keep writing there so if I'm ever to reach 1000 Facebook friends I'll have to change tactics and start doing some damage control. Lately I've had several postings on my Facebook wall where most of my friends are TBM's, including both my parents and all my siblings who are on Facebook + their kids/spouses, about the importance of Mormons working hard to make sure the church gains a reputation of being the most transparent, honest and truthful church in the world. A District President for the church in Eastern Europe who was a Facebook friend of mine recently wrote "Alex, you are a liar" when I wrote about what the Church Historian Steven Snow said on a nationwide TV program trying to deceive people into thinking that the church had no idea why Blacks never got the Priesthood. I had then pointed out the First Presidency statements from the past where they explained why the Blacks were denied. Perhaps it was an unintentional mistake by Snow of which he must now feel grieviously disappointed in himself as it can destroy faith in the church's reputation for transparency and honesty when people hear that the Brethren tell white lies. However without being able to inquire as to why I was a liar so I could see the errors of my ways, wear sack cloth, and humbly repent; I lost my Friend because he unfriended me. In the meantime my face has been turning blue holding my breath that Snow would repent of his deceitfulness so I've had to stop holding my breath so I don't make an untimely departure from mortality to the Spirit World.
So please don't hurt poor DCP too badly or he might get offended at the world and dump me as a Friend too. Perhaps I could get more Friends if I were to cheerfully bear testimony about how marvelous and wonderful it is to tell white lies. But instead of saying "white lies" I should just tell milk stories and leave out the meat.
