In Nov 2017, the LDS church on their proselytizing site Come Unto Christ rewrote and simplified the Articles of Faith. They were called the "summary" Articles of Faith. I guess that after 150 years it was time for an update. Several changes were made, mostly to get rid of the kind of crazy stuff that Mormons don't really believe or practice. For some reason, the church has removed the simplified Articles from the website, but you can read about them here: https://wheatandtares.org/2019/08/18/up ... -of-faith/Limnor wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 3:57 amI read that the Articles of Faith have changed.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 3:43 amTry here: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/com ... s-of-faith

Wow. I was not aware of those changes. They are really backing down on Mormon beliefs. Were these changes verified by their prophet as correct? Or is it just PR restructuring so Mormons seem more like other christian religions? Either way, it is not the LDS church most of us grew up with.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 4:18 amIn Nov 2017, the LDS church on their proselytizing site Come Unto Christ rewrote and simplified the Articles of Faith. A couple examples:
Old #7: We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
New #7: In modern-day revelation and priesthood healing and blessing.
Old number 8: We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
New number 8: That the Bible and Book of Mormon are both divinely revealed scripture.
Glad to see that the PR department decided to fix the Articles of Faith and make them more palatable, even though it appears they decided to remove them.
Because local members were concerned about just such a mud slide, and the removal of safeguards due to other developments, did they think to pray? I’m guessing that at least some did. I wonder how they have managed to reframe this incident in their minds to protect the notion that God answers prayers? Perhaps they are sat at home now comfortable with the idea that God has answered their prayers with a test of their faith, that they needed for some reason.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 11:20 pmOne must admit, there's a certain poetic irony in the Mormon church being buried in four feet of mud, crap, and debris. Surely the Mormon god wouldn't let a simple microburst—a tiny tantrum of weather—obliterate a house of worship. I bet Zeus wouldn't have let this happen.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 8:41 amIn another example of God’s displeasure with the SLC LDS Church…
Why didn’t the Holy Ghost step up with some inspiration when the Church’s property department were in the planning stage? “Hey guys, don’t build in the likely path of a mud slide”.
While the public works engineer, Gordon Haight, is all "nothing could have prepared them for this," a neighbor named Barry Card is out here saying, "This could have been avoided!" It seems Barry has more faith in a well-constructed debris channel than Mormon god. Perhaps the real miracle here would have been for the city to have a functional, 1,200-foot-long debris channel built before the disaster.
One has to wonder if this is some kind of message, or a sign that even the most devout Mormons should remember to check the local building codes and invest in a decent drainage system. Because heaven helps those who help themselves, and perhaps even more so, those who build with proper mitigation/drainage efforts.
Last week, a study was published where RNA was created abiotically in a "primordial Earth" experiment.
I thought God was responsible for everything surrounding the gaps so if the gaps completely dissappear then God is seen as responsible for it all.Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 3:47 pmLast week, a study was published where RNA was created abiotically in a "primordial Earth" experiment.
The space for the god of the gaps to dwell forever dwindles. Phenomenal cosmic power, iddy-biddy living space.
