A guy who had left the church, Preston I believe, was a 'good egg' that participated on Mormon-l along with Tungate and others.

MG, do you remember KevinSim? He was a believer and seemed like a gentle soul, and participated in a few of the more esoteric discussions about theology, if memory serves me well. I can’t speak to his activity outside of this board but he was pretty active on DM for a while.

Yep. I remember him. I don't think he went back farther than the board before this one. He was a younger guy, relatively speaking, I think. Seemed like a nice guy. Like I mentioned, however, there has been a gradual and now more sudden movement towards 'silo-ing' and using tactics to try and get rid of opposing opinions rather than letting them all melt in the post of ideas/beliefs.

The recent thread I began that seems to still be active is a demonstration that, on the whole, there can be good discussions (even being able to disagree) without trying to get rid of any 'outliers'.

A while back there was a poster that went by Truth Dancer (I think she morphed into one or two other monikers). She knew her stuff. She and Brant Gardner would go the rounds. Some were on her side, some were on the other. The conversations were civil, for the most part, and I learned a lot of stuff...being just a regular guy.

So many people’s perspectives I miss encountering regularly here.

DrStakhanovite, and is unmatched knowledge of philosophy. Darth J’s absolutely brilliant mind, and steel-trap memory. Blixa’s incredible knowledge of history and her ability to unravel the human element in events. The Dude’s mind-blowing knowledge of biology, DNA, and his razor sharp wit. Runtu’s empathetic and unique perspectives, and engaging writing style. CKSalmon’s unparalleled patristics’ knowledge. Chris Smith’s ability to recall historical information, and synthesize new information into new and unique perspectives. DrW's ability to put complex thoughts and concepts into terms which I could readily understand.

I could go on (and on, and on, forever). So many people whose generosity of knowledge, and kindness towards me, have left a lasting impact.

I remember and miss the early days on FLAK. There were a few posters that were unique in their own way, whose names I can no longer recall. One was a guy who could see prophecies in the mountains around SLC. He was always pointing stuff out, and I think he even opened a mini visiting center somewhere in the Salt Lake Valley.

Yes, he passed away not long ago. He was quite an amazing person outside of his struggles with mental illness. I visited his visitor center for Apocalrock in Utah. It was pretty cool. He was a generous and talented person. His health struggles really impeded him, and yet he was in many ways an admirable person.
