In my country he wouldn't stand a chance before the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. But I understand it's different in the USA.

Good grief, Ray. Ideas "criminal"?

I'm grateful that we don't have thought police in the United States.

We do. They are called the Strengthening Church Members Committee.

Perhaps something like "destroyed" :)

The HREOC, in my opinion, has made Australia a better and more tolerant country.
Under the current laws, Mormons are also protected. Public religious vilification (of a particular religion) or religious discrimination is a crime.

I'm not always happy with the "thought police", but I believe it has made Australian society more civil. People think three times before uttering racist comments, for example.

I bet not.

Conservatives that I knew growing up, made the exact same argument of the Court overstepping its boundaries in the Brown v. Board of Education decision that spelled the end to desegregation.

Three cheers for Card, speaking truth to power.

Homosexual marriage, like abortion and some other contentious "culture war" issues, does not belong in the Courts nor in the national legislature, but in the state legislatures and as referenda for the people to decide.

Oh, but the Left doesn't do as well imposing its ideology, morality, and values on others by force in those venues, does it?

Of course, as the Tenth Amendment is, for all intents, dead, the culture wars will go on and on until the war of all against all the cultural Left has been fomenting since the Sixties reaches its crescendo - at which point I hope to be in Jackson County in a city named "Zion" watching the whole spectacular and vibrant collapse on C-SPAN.

Or to have assumed room temperature.

Honestly, I don't think he's that great of a writer. in my opinion, only "Seventh Son" was really special (the childhood of a fantasy Joseph Smith character with real folk-magic powers).

I didn't know the Taliban was for treating gays as human beings but not letting them call evil good or force society to accept them.....maybe I misjudged them.

Most of those who support homosexuality here, Nehor, aren't capable of those kind of nuanced intellectual distinctions, I fear.

So Card thinks Congress aims to change nature? To decree grey is green? To declare blind = sighted? To enforce the new rule that 1+1 = 3? What a loony. Completely unhinged.

No Seth, it is you who is both loony and unhinged, morally as well as intellectually. Homosexuality, whatever else it is, is a perversion; a distortion and violation of natural psycho-sexual development and inclinations, both psychologically and physiologically.

The gross moral convolution of the secular Left on this issue, as on others, is positively stupefying (but that is, of course, what you get with Darwinian fundamentalism - the demotion of human beings from God's children to mere highly intelligent animals capable of endless adaptations, including psychological, that as mere epiphenomena of their evolutionary history, have no intrinsic moral qualities).

How convenientl it all is.

Yes, Card favors random imprisonment whereas the Taliban favor indiscriminate mass execution. Apparently, this means Card treats gays as human beings and is simply refusing to let them call evil good or force society to accept them, but the Taliban not? Heck of a nuanced intellectual distinction you have there.

I don't advocate genocide of Jews. I just think they should be forced into labor camps. So please don't lump me in with those monsters who don't treat Jews as human beings.

Nehor got off on the wrong foot. As I clarified in a later post, the intented point of comparison with the Taliban was Card's wish to destroy the government and replace it with something that conforms to his backward religious dogma.
