The last time we visited my in-laws in Utah, they had gospel doctrine teacher who I suspect was a lot like you. Self-obsessed. Trying to impress everyone with his intellect. Going off on wierd tangents. Noticeable lack of the spirit in the room.

I'm sure he was popular with a few of the people in the class. But I heard he was released not too long after our visit, and then he and his wife went inactive.

I wasn't surprised.

If the LDS care about their own survival they'd put an imidiate halt to internet self promotion and stick to then ensign, conference, and letters to the bishop ricks as the only methood of communication with it's members. That way it may become easier for the elders to cover up the church's lies. Right now they are just doing battle with the weapon that's killing them.

It wont happen though.

After church the falls and the leaders devide the assets. The 15 will all be billionairs. Much like a ROTH IRA.

Nomad wrote:I know it is. From what I can tell, being honored by "these people" is your primary aspiration in life. And you’ve got it! You’ve finally achieved, among this group of faithless apostates, that elusive something you never could quite get from the faithful Saints.

So congratulations! Enjoy it while you can. I hope it's as satisfying as you imagined it would be.

I have to agree, it is more difficult to maintain the approval of the faithful saints. You have to put on and maintain a shiny veneer.
I'm the apostate your bishop warned you about.

Are you sure that you are addressing the right person?

Consig is much more of a defender than a critic. As a matter of fact, CFR where he has EVER criticized a Church leader. Also, CFR on where he said that General Conference was boring. Consig was the first poster here to start a thread with positive summaries of some of the GC talks.

His OP is about making conference better. There is nothing wrong with that. Brainstorming ideas for improvement does not equate with him disliking GC. If he didn't think it was important, he would have no reason to want it improved.

I appreciate the support, Liz!

But I think it will be an easy matter to produce a number of CFR's from me under this head.

To save Nomad the trouble, I will state it for the record right now, "General Conference is boring."

It is not only boring. It is soporific. And sophomoric. I feel completely drained after General Conference. I do not feel uplifted and inspired.

It makes it really hard to appreciate.

Homodox Mormons will never admit to an outsider or to other members that they think conference is boring. They feel duty-bound to pretend to enjoy it.

I believe this is only too true, Buff.

But you should see the expression on many Mormon faces when I tell them I think it is boring.

My point, though, is that Nomad was trying to indicate that you were some apostate who didn't have a testimony. That is simply not true. He doesn't seem to recognize that those of us who desire change for the better are not a threat to the Church.

Sadly that isn't accurate, you are a threat to the Church.
And your Church will act accordingly if you raise your head too far above the parapet. If the Church wanted your views and opinions it would have a robust method of gathering them. If you have a view on how to change it for the better where and to who can you express it?

I hear you, Liz.

I just didn't want you staking out a position about me that would be easy for Nomad to defeat. ;^)

I wish that, when Elder Ballard was talking about the name of the Church during Conference, he would have spent a little time mentioning the last part--about how it is the Church of the Latter-day Saints.

That somehow seems to get overlooked.
