I think that you got it wrong. Read the OP again. You will see that the poor home teacher was faced with some difficult circumstances. It had nothing to do with speaking up. It had a lot to do with jumping to conclusions about a video that the consigs did not see. When she began to tear up, the home teacher had a problem on his hands. And when she made the accusations, the home teacher had a problem on his hands. I am sure that he felt uncomfortable and wondered what exactly brought all this on.

Now it could have went like this:

Home teacher is excited about the video. Tells the consigs all about it. Mrs. consig then asks questions about the video before jumping the gun. And doesn't get emotional about it but keeps level headed and takes it out on her husband when home teachers leave.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

I think if you ever go back to church you should explain to all the sisters exactly when and where and how they are permitted to speak.

The home teacher did nothing wrong, why take it out on him and make him feel uncomfortable? What was he supposed to say?

Now why me is explaining to us how when a women expresses her feelings and emotions she is "taking it out on" the men that are present. In other words, she is being a hysterical female and needs to be more like a man. Her reaction is invalid and uncomfortable for men to endure.

So what? All our reactions are personal. It was personal for her! Her reaction is just as valid as any. She was expressing her reaction and emotions about the way the LDS church was going about its Media Blitz. There is nothing, nothing for her to apologize for.

Her HT didn't need to do anything.

What would you have expected my Relief Society teacher to do about if I were to tell her that her story was racist in front of 30 other women?

If you started to cry and lash out at the LDS church for ruining your life...well, I don't think that she could do anything but put her arm around you to comfort you. But you would need to evaluate your reaction and why you reacted the way you did.

Consigs wife was expressing more than her reaction to the video. The video was the catalyst for something a little larger especially since the video was about a happy black woman working in the inner city, enjoying the single life with her friends and loving her mom.

I want you to know how much I appreciate you and all the rest who have been so supportive to my wife in this discussion.

But I have a confession to make.

I feel badly that I did not recognize this implicit message to Mormon mothers when I first heard about the new media campaign.

I immediately recognized the hypocrisy of trying to paint fringe Mormons as mainstream, but I didn't "get" how harmful this message could be to those who had lived their lives as best they could to be "faithful" Mormon women.

Not until my wife spoke up.

I was floored by how obvious it all was once she expressed her feelings.

And I am ashamed I didn't see it before.

All the Best!

Lets have a reality check: in the LDS church there have always been women working even when they were moms to young children. And they weren't disciplined. True, mothers are encouraged to stay home with the kids. But it is not a commandment but a suggestion. So, the I am a Mormon series, even showing moms who work is what the situation in the church is: it is a church where people are doing many things--working, hiking, sporting etc. and all trying to survive in a world gone crazy.

She must not be a Lamanite, then, because she would have turned white if she had been a Lamanite and had accepted the Gospel. #not racist

You mean a video showing a happy single black woman, working as a teacher in the inner city with a nice life with friends who loves her mom? This would send a wrong message to all married LDS women?

Is this black woman living on the fringe of Mormonism?
