Methuselah lived to be 969. If he’s our model for a generation, we’ve got nearly a millennium to work with. Futurists must love that guy.
Indeed, and a generation (singular) can be applied to a whole people alive at once or generations (plural) to family branches.

Singular:
Gen 7:1 wrote:And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
Gen 15:16 wrote:But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
Gen 50:23 wrote:And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.
Plural:
Gen 5:1 wrote:This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 10:1 wrote:Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

Here is how the Church explains what dispensation means in Mormon terms
churchofjesuschrist.org wrote:A dispensation of the gospel is a period of time in which the Lord has at least one authorized servant on the earth who bears the holy priesthood and the keys, and who has a divine commission to dispense the gospel to the inhabitants of the earth. When this occurs, the gospel is revealed anew so that people of that dispensation do not have to depend basically on past dispensations for knowledge of the plan of salvation. There have been many gospel dispensations since the beginning. The Bible suggests at least one dispensation identified with Adam, another with Enoch, another with Noah, and so on with Abraham, Moses, and Jesus with His Apostles in the meridian of time. Paul writes of “the dispensation of the fulness of times” in which the Lord will “gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth” (Eph. 1:10). The fulness of times is the final dispensation and began with the revelation of the gospel to Joseph Smith. It is a dispensation of restoration and of fulfillment of the Lord’s plans and purposes since the world began.
The LDS Church promotes Apocalypticism. That the end of days is imminent. That stance promotes urgency in its adherents to comply with leaderships requirements, which can be seen as self serving or at least that there’s a self interest in promoting it from the leaderships perspective. It helps them retain power and authority over the members and, in the LDS Church’s case, drives income. Of course, the Church has been claiming the second coming is imminent for the last nearly two hundred years. There’s obviously a definition of “imminent” with which I’m not familiar.

Interesting to note that the very word dispensation is not found in the Old Testament or the Book of Mormon but is mentioned four times in the New Testament wherein it is strictly applied to St Paul's generation:
New Testament wrote:
  • For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. (1 Cor 9:17)
  • Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: (Eph 1:8-10)
  • For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: (Eph 3:1,2)
  • Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; (Col 1:25)

The above statements made by the apostle Paul make it perfectly clear how the dispensation committed to him belonged to his day, time, generation, and was a period in which the church would be blessed as it prepared for the imminent return of Christ. It has absolutely nothing to do with 2,000 years in the future according to the interpretation of the Mormons. The prophecy of the Second Coming failed and Mormons will twist the scriptures to mean whatever they want in order to keep the prophecy alive. The dispensation of the fullness of times belonged to St. Paul's day -- not futuristic modern times! The Mormons are dead wrong!

What's funny is that Joseph Smith took it upon himself to copy/steal St. Paul's so-called dispensation of the fulness of times and incorporate it into his own time and generation in an effort to restore/renew the prophecy and keep it alive:
Doctrine and Covenants wrote:
  • Unto whom I have committed the keys of my kingdom, and a dispensation of the gospel for the last times; and for the fulness of times, in the which I will gather together in one all things, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth
  • For unto you, the Twelve, and those, the First Presidency, who are appointed with you to be your counselors and your leaders, is the power of this priesthood given, for the last days and for the last time, in the which is the dispensation of the fulness of times
  • For I deign to reveal unto my church things which have been kept hid from before the foundation of the world, things that pertain to the dispensation of the fulness of times
  • All the times of their revolutions, all the appointed days, months, and years, and all the days of their days, months, and years, and all their glories, laws, and set times, shall be revealed in the days of the dispensation of the fulness of times

Joseph Smith's above statements were to be fulfilled in his time and generation and we see how yet again the so-called last dispensation failed to produce the Second Coming.

Joseph Smith Sr. gave some blessings that were highly elevated and intensely visionary promises...not unique for the spiritual practices of the time...that differed in tone from modern blessing practice.

In his blessings his style included visions of heavenly beings and the end times, direct promises of longevity and protection, sealing up unto eternal life, and yes, prophecy of the end times and those that would witness them...and in particular the second coming of Christ.

Joseph Sr. along with many other early leaders had a millenarian world view in which the Savior's return was imminent. They knew that they were in and part of the final Dispensation of the Fullness of Times that would immediately precede the second coming of the Savior. It was not uncommon for them to think that it would happen within their lifetimes.

It might be helpful to remember that for years during the early days of the restoration the practices/doctrine of the Church were still developing. Practices were much more fluid and 'spirit filled' as a result of the times they lived in. This prophetic fervor manifest itself in a number of different ways...including patriarchal blessings of the time.

Now that we are in the twenty-first century we can see that the final dispensation was not just ten or twenty years in duration. The Restoration is ongoing even in our day. And we are part of it.

MG

The spiritual Testimony & Witness of the revelatory and prophetic Patriarchal Blessing given in 1834 by Patriarch to the Church (prophet, seer, and revelator) Joseph Smith Sr. to his son Joseph Smith Jr. that was recorded by Oliver Cowdery is all the evidence we need in proving the inspiration of the Holy Ghost® manifested in the presence of Mormonism's highest officers is after the manner of men -- a worldly religion, and pretending to speak for God. It was more fake prophecy given by a fake Holy Spirit®!

MG, your apologetic excuses are outright evil and disregard everything we know about the spiritual and authoritative claims of Mormonism and I rebuke you for deceit and trickery. You are a troll on this board and have a forked tongue. You are a deceiver and love to tell lies. Lying is what you do.

Amen.

Well, all he wants to do is bless others lives. There isn't anything wrong with that is there? The ends certainly justify the means in Mormonism. Don't they? Can't we just make one tiny exception for their sake?

How hardly at the expense of paying 10%, not touching your private parts, and doing what you're told by bat-sht crazy leaders is no means to justify an exception. The House of Mormonism and the ugly religion it created deserves to be burned to the ground. I am grateful for my part in doing just that. THAT is why I am here!

I AM an antiMormon!

Ha ha!

Look buddy-boy, get your sorry ass into a time machine and go back to the year 1834 and correct them guys who started the Mormon church. Point your finger into the face of Joseph Sr. and tell him that prophesying about his son living to see Christ's return is utterly false and he needs to learn to listen to the Spirit® and quit speaking as a man after the ways of the world. Tell him to start acting like a true prophet, seer, and revelator in which he has been called: Patriarch to the Church. Then point your finger into the face of President Joseph Smith and tell him his old man's prophetic blessing is false prophecy and that the apple don't fall too far from the tree. Then, walk over to the Assistant President (Oliver Cowdery) and snatch the ink pen from his hand and tell him to stop writing every false prophecy that is uttered out of the mouth of a Smith!

After that, come back home to the year 2026 and report. Did they threaten to kick your sorry troll ass out of the Church?

Hey, we were called "Saturday's Warriors." Remember that?

And on that note, there was one all important question that remained to be answered:

Will the Second Coming happen before or after the year 2,000?

Remember that?

And so, the question moves ever onward:
