I'll help us get to 1000.

Let's take Dan at his proxy word "only to find out, a year later, if a Bishop was on the tour; how would the conversation had gone with the Bishop friend.

Brother Petersen: Bishop Evans-Smith, I have a request of you.

Bishop Jones-Morren-Smith: Well what is it?

Petersen: I have a list of names from a tour I gave lead in Israel. A anonymous person, who claims to be a Bishop, also claims to have been on the tour. Will you search the CDOL and see if a name from my customer list matches a name in the CDOL?

Bishop Jones-Morren-Smith: Dan searching the CDOL to find a match on your customer list just to find out if a Bishop was on the tour isn't with the usage rights of the CDOL.

Petersen: ok, well, ummm, this anonymous person who claims to be a Bishop, which I have no reason to beleive is telling the truth, well umm see, this anonymous person said I was a poopyhead. And it just isn't right for an anonymous person to claim to be a Bishop - even though I have no reason to beleive he is - and to call me a poopyhead.

Bishop Jones-Morren-Smith: Well an anonymous person claiming to be a Bishop, and the is no plausible reason to believe the person is, called you a poopyhead; that changes everything. I'll let you know if a bishop name in the CDOL matches your customer list.

Petersen: Thanks because that is all I want know...was a Bishop on the tour. What thou doest, do it quickly.

Since this thread has taken on monster proportions, I would like to add some Japanese poetry about Dan:

Daniel C. Peterson's Haiku

Angry, bitter man

A rotund ball of fury

Yes, his name is Dan
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."

I knew that the many voices of this board are as one polished shaft in the quiver of the Lord ready to smite down all the enemies of true righteousness. Now if you can rise with me from your endless practise of valor to sally forth and see that judgment toes the line and rightousness doth not vary from the plummet there is no weapon formed that can stop us. All hail to Zion's Glory!

Hold everyman's feet to the fire of truth. Grab both on the left hand and to the right and spare not till only one truth remains throughout all the earth as a stone that smites the image of Babylon upon its toes that have long trampled upon the Holy One of Israel.

Just think what would have happened if some poor guy - who happens to be a current Bishop - went on that tour and was wrongly accused of being EBWC.

Come on ye sons of Zion we have only forty pages to fulfill in the wildernes of our madening affliction before we shall see the beloved land of promise.

There is nothing in LDS Church policy that gives the bishop over a given ward authority to police total strangers who claim to be bishops, over whom the bishop has no ecclesiastical authority whatsoever, because the bishop feels that this stranger is somehow acting outside of conformity with how a bishop should act. This particular apologia of yours would have it that bishops are watching over the world at large on the Church's behalf.

Not only do LDS policy and doctrine (e.g., that book abbreviated as "D&C") not support this assertion, it would mean that LDS bishops decide for themselves what is or is not within the scope of their role as bishop over a given ward. That would make the revocable license agreement---which is a legal document, not a religious document---totally meaningless.

Seems to me LDS bishops should have something more important to do than investigate anonymous posters who claim to be this or that on little message boards on the internet. For a church leader to believe he is charged with such a task is really pathetic. Best guess is ministers in other churches don't feel the need to do this and concentrate on the real people under their care instead of ghosts on the net.

you ask the funniest things sometimes.

I think you're quite welcome to question the discipleship of anyone. It's often considered despicable behavior 'round these parts if an LDS person does something like it, but you can do as you please. Surely, I can't help the hypocritical nature of this joint.
