I don't disagree with those points. I disagree with the idea that something is necessary in the name of longevity. I consider the necessity of breathing to be quite different than the necessity of avoiding fatty foods. I would guess that masturbation is no more physically necessary than avoiding McDonald's (even though I recommend avoiding fast food).

So God may issue these commandments not because they're necessarily good for our bodies, but just out of a loyalty test?

Would you agree that church leaders have made statements that are misleading in regards to whether or not masturbation has any useful purpose?

Perhaps a translation error resulted in some Bibles reading "Thou shalt not lay with handkind as you would womankind''.

LOL!!! I missed that one. If only Joseph had put his hand to the plow.

I still think it's funny that women are rarely questioned about masturbation.

That type of thinking would go along way towards assuming that men and women are the same. It's not thought about by those who truly want to think men and women exist in separate spheres and are wired completely different.

by the way, abman, I do not believe church leaders were using the term "physically necessary" in the restricted sense you are using it. Look again at the quote:

Masturbation is not physically necessary. There is already a way by which the male system relieves excessive spermatic fluid quite regularly through the nocturnal emission or wet dream. Monthly menstrual flow expels the female’s egg and cleanses the womb. For both sexes, physical or emotional tensions can be released by vigorous activity. Thus, in a biological sense, masturbation for either gender is not necessary.

They're not talking about "physically necessary" = survive at that moment in time. They're talking about the overall health of the body.

Well, you know, we're the more spiritual ones. That's why there will be too many of us in the CK, hence, necessitating plural wifery.

Or rather they made statements that are incorrect according to this study.

So it would seem. It appears to be such a minor point in such talks that I really don't think it matters.

It doesn't, but then the Word of Wisdom doesn't say that drinking hot drinks is a sin either. The sin of me drinking coffee and tea is that I promised not to.

hehe

This conversation really does lend new meaning to the phrase, "The laying on of hands."
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
