I don't appreciate the unexpected and undeserved insulting smugness of your response.

I'm not sure why you feel such an urge to make this personal. I expect such things from certain others here, of course, but, until relatively recently, didn't expect it from you.

If the affected earnestness in the final paragraph of your initial response was meant in jest rather than mockery, you certainly have my apology.

If I'm thinking of the right/same person, I believe I saw him in a performance of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum a couple of years back. The fact that I can remember (even slightly) something/someone from a few years back is likely a massive compliment to his acting abilities.

Then again, maybe I’m mixing names (I’m fairly certain I’m not)…

Apology accepted.

That's the guy. He's a massive crowd favorite at the Shakespearean Festival.

I think his Cyrano was one of the best performances I've seen from him.

(As corroborating evidence, I offer my wife's reaction: She has a degree in theater and is a pretty informed critic of acting performances and staging and the like, and we often laugh about the tendency of Utah audiences to give standing ovations to just about everything. But she jumped to her feet, clapping enthusiastically, when Bryan came out at the end of Cyrano.)

Brian is at his best in roles that offer a comedic angle. I actually thought his interpretation of Hamlet two years ago was much weaker than did the several professional critics who raved about it. You may recall that you and your wife saw the same performance as did my daughter and I. I don't remember your (and her) reaction to his performance then.

Did you also know that Brian's real-life wife (Melinda Pfundstein) was the actress playing Roxanne?

We will be going to see Cyrano Thursday night. I'm looking forward to it.

Edit: Brian also owes his local popularity to the fact that he is ... well ... a local. He went to Cedar High School and SUU.

Edited to add:
I'm glad she's still doing theatre.

It's a good thing Will can act (at least up to local theater standards). It would be cruel to be cursed with such a drama-queen personality and not be able to act.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

... local theater standards ...

I should note that the Utah Shakespearean Festival proudly displays its Tony award as the finest regional theater in the United States. Once you get to the level of the USF, the only place to go "up" is to Broadway.

beastie wrote:So if the patients in hospital X actually do not demonstrate a superior cure rate, better overall health, and heightened intelligence as compared to the patients in hospital Y, is it not fair to say that the "treatment Holy Ghost" is ineffective?

Mormons can't have this both ways, although they consistently try to. Either the constant companionship of the HG makes a difference or it does not. If it doesn't make a difference, then, no, we can't judge the church by the members, and it's a hospital like any other. If the constant companionship of the HG makes a difference, then we can judge the church by its members, and its members ought to demonstrate superior moral and even intellectual behavior.

Conclusion: the constant companionship of the HG makes no difference. Any benefits of belief in Mormonism can also be obtained from membership with any other social organization.

We only have informal, anecdotal evidence that hospital X is equivalent to hospital Y. I'm not convinced this is the case. In fact I have plenty of anecdotal evidence that the church improves the lives of people I know (gets them off the street, focus on family, etc.)

Perhaps many benefits are available in other organizations, but that does not mean that "treatment Holy Ghost" is ineffective or unnecessary. I suppose it depends on what you value. The Holy Ghost bring more than just peace into one's life. It brings more than motivation to be kinder to others (but firm in rightousness). The Holy Ghost brings one a special connection with God and the knowledge of how to gain fulfillment through bringing one's life in harmony with the purpose for which He has put us here.

Yeppers. I know her, and her sister (and you remember correctly, she is from Vegas – graduated from Las Vegas High School). Her sister and I were part of the same song/dance group, and I'm fairly certain I was in a production of Hello Dolly with Melinda (maybe it was Bye, Bye, Birdie).

A wonderful woman (and family). Proof that not everything that comes out of Vegas is crap.
