Calculus Crusader said to Jason:

I know Christianity better than you, and I am not interested in your ignorance masquerading as informed opinion. Holy Joe was a narcissist, a manipulator, a charlatan and a philanderer. Accept it and move on. (UL & italics addedb RM)

CC, to the UL'd in your post: You know this by??? I respectfully suggest, your "ignorance" is not masked but is on full display;) And to the italicized, you might be surprised by Jason's thought re JS--although I'm not speaking for Jason, he does quite well on his own...

A fair number of active LDS posters here recognize Joseph Smith has those attributes you apply to him. Yet for personal reasons they choose to stay. Does that bother you? If so, why?

Out of curiousity, are you a Bible-literalist? Fundamentalist? Creationist? RC? JW?

I know Christianity better than you, too. That's why I've never flirted with the nonsense that is Jesus mythicism.

It depends. If they ignorantly swipe at Christianity to make themselves feel better about their house-of-cards religion then, yes, I have a problem with them. I also have a problem with people who believe vapid Spong has anything worthwhile to say.

My good moron,

Please delineate the fraudulent characteristics of my church. Then I will respond to your inanity.

The Christian church? Or your particular denomination?

Christian Church Fraudulent Characteristics:

17 - Ritual Human Sacrifice

16 - Rape in the Bible

15 - Sanctioned Murder in the Bible

14 - Sanctioned Slavery in the Bible

13 - Noah's Ark

12 - Adam & Eve impossibility

11 - 6 day creation

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

4 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

3 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

2 - You don't like homosexuals because the Bible told you so.

1 - You're an asshole.
You can’t trust adults to tell you the truth.

The post above is the butterfly effect of a temple president resigning.

Ego was never a problem for you, CC. Humility is, though.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

There is no such thing in Christianity.

16 - Rape in the Bible

Certainly not in the New Testament, and even in the Old Testament, rape is not advocated.

15 - Sanctioned Murder in the Bible

Putting whole towns under the sword is only advocated in the Old Testament.

14 - Sanctioned Slavery in the Bible

Yes. In the Old Testament and pseudo-Pauline epistles.

13 - Noah's Ark

What about it?

12 - Adam & Eve impossibility

What about it?

11 - 6 day creation

Six periods, anyway. What about it?

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

Like I told you before lunkhead, you haven't seen me upset.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

I have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created by God.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

This does not apply to me, lunkhead.

I'm not obliged to embrace every aspect of the Old Testament.

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

I'm not sure I believe in the Virgin Birth, since only Matthew and Luke mention it, but in any event we humans have had "virgin births" for, what, three decades now?

5 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

A hell of their own making, yes.

4 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise...

"Modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics" do not substantially conflict with Christianity.

...some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

I am not inclined to accept glossolalia.

3 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

Not quite.

2 - You don't like homosexuals because the Bible told you so.

There is also natural law. (q.v.)

"Old earth Christian" sounds ineresting. Will you please explain? (Of course you know Joseph Smith was a non-traditional-trinitarian too.) We might have more in common than not???
And that in spite of my respect for Spong... Then again, if you're a believer in blood atonement, there might be little except our humaness...

Hi, Harmony. "Mine" = Me. KA. :)

So he then retired from the Board of Regents? Or was he retired prior to the call?

I believe he retired prior to the call, but I'm not certain.

"this summer"? so 2008?

No, Harm. The material quoted in my post is a couple of years old. Brother Chesney's decision to leave the Mormon church happened a few years ago.

Where is "here"?

I believe the original post by my friend was made on FLAK, but I'm not certain. He informed me of his meeting with Jerrell via phone, before he posted anywhere on the internet.

Wish I could be of more help.
