Re: What Would You Do?
LOL
mak, it's funny how you've turned from your previous assertions that I lied to some new ones. Not going to defend the first ones, now?
And you want to call what I've done "idiotic evasions?" Well, whatever lets you sleep at night.
Too funny.
Here's something that is very true: you might just be the whiniest person I've ever encountered online. That is no lie.
(**Oh no, I evaded his demand for evidence. I wonder if he feels a victory dance coming on. It might be easy to do if he forgets his own idiotic evasions first...**)
LMAO

Your statement would make sense if that's the only thing I said was separating the two, but I did not. His tactical disadvantage is one of the things that makes the "gunfight" characterization misleading. He was locked in a small jail cell and ambushed by an armed and angry mob. That clearly weakens the assertion that he was participating in a "gunfight."
AlmaBound wrote:I must have missed this part of young Mr. Webb's statements. Care to point me to the source of your assertion here?
I thought about letting you know that you didn't have to feign ignorance in asking that question, but I guess you felt more clever that way. I thought there was a chance you might be sincere and so didn't. My mistake. This is part of the dishonesty that I don't appreciate, and I'll thank you not to do it again.
I can only assume you refer to Chauncey Webb, who was an anti-Mormon and was happy to lie to make Smith look bad. No, my statements come from the accounts of Henry Martin Harmon:
Some of the mob then went into the jail and I heard the reports of the guns fired inside. Joseph Smith came to the window, and then went back, and in a few moments appeared again, and leaped from the window, when the mob fired upon him and he fell dead. The fifer of the Warsaw Company came running into the jail yard as Joseph fell dead, and brandishing his fife over Joseph triumphantly exclaimed, "You were the ruination of my father. I will have revenge," and struck him several times on the head with his pewter fife, and fled with the company toward Warsaw.
I then went home and told my mother what had happened and returned in a few minutes and saw Joseph who was set up against the well curb, and was informed that Stigall the jailor had set him up there.
And William M. Daniels:
He seemed to fall easy. He struck partly on his right shoulder and back, his neck and head reaching the ground a little before his feet. He rolled instantly on his face. From this position he was taken by a young man, who sprang to him from the other side of the fence, who held a pewter fife in his hand, was barefoot and bare-headed, having on no coat, with his pants rolled above his knees, and shirt-sleeves above his elbows. He set President Smith against the south side of the well-curb that was situated a few feet from the jail. While doing this, the savage muttered aloud, “This is Old Jo; I know him. I know you, Old Jo. Damn you: you are the man that had my daddy shot.” The object he had in talking in this way, I supposed to be this: He wished to have President Smith and the people in general, believe he was the son of Governor Boggs, which would lead to the opinion that it was the Missourians who had come over and committed the murder. This was the report that they soon caused to be circulated; but this was too palpable an absurdity to be credited.

And not even an attempt to support the assertion that I made up any history. You lied and so you lose. You're a waste of time. I'm done with you.

I’m beginning to see how things work here. Responding to Ad hominem argument, with Ad hominem argument is the only communication medium recognized. Trying to add something thoughtful to the conversion is a waste of one’s time unless of course it starts with something like “you are a lying, hypocritical dickhead” or something similar.

I don't deny being critical of others' ignorance, but I do deny that I my posts are without substance or logic.

And not even an attempt to support the assertion that I lied several times in the quotes you posted. Does that mean you lose too?
Wait... I lose? This was a game? In whose eyes do I lose? Yours? Oh my! How can I ever live with myself!? The tragedy!
*stifles laughter*
I won't call you a waste of time, though. You entertain the hell out of me... like a clown, or a cartoon. You can be done with me. I'm fine with that. Your interactions with others are more than enough to keep me amused.
Here's a cyber hanky. Dry your eyes, little one. There, there... there, there.

No, you just don't pay attention. Your assertion that I make up history has been shown to be a lie, as has your assertion that I proclaim to know what Joseph Smith thinks. I told you that you'd be shown to be lying if you couldn't support those accusations. You didn't even try. You compound your lies every time you have to make something up to make Mormons look stupid. You're a dishonest and juvenile poster, and I'm not wasting my time. I won't be reading any more of your posts, but feel free to continue with the impotent posturing if your self-esteem needs it.

Wow, the automatic reflex of self defense from reading into something that was not said or meant.
I was talking to the general lack of response to my posts, which I’ve tried to post with substance/logic but seem to have forgotten the magic ingredients, hatred, bitterness, self righteousness, personal attack etc.
Don’t take it personally … it’s not just you, nor your “side”.
I think I’ve found want I needed for now … I have been lead to some links/thoughts that have opened my eyes/thoughts a bit more. Thanks to all for that.
I would not have minded sticking around for a while … the potential for some good academic thought was appealing.
The bitterness is just dragging me down and seems to outweigh the potential of gaining further enlightenment.
God Bless

This is not, and never really has been, a place for serious discussion.
Real conversation occurs once in a while, but the board soon gets its bearings again and recovers.
It's psychologically fascinating, but, for historical and doctrinal issues, pretty much useless.
