But what will you say when there ARE a thousand. Yeah, tens of thousands and Zion comes up from beneath and Zion comes down from above and the earth shakes with gladness.

But I still hate the idea of rewarding the Blazing Saddles model of holding one's self hostage (as Sethbag said).

I was seriously offended by BC. I am grandstanding for the Millie Vanilli troupe. No serious threat? Bah! Then why not smash me to utter smithereens? They relish such about utter nonsense but will not defend their gospel even slightly? The hypocrisy is rife and arrogant unto an abomination.

Did you just compare Schryver and Peterson to Milli Vanilli?

Here's my two cents:

I always find your posts interesting, Nightlion, whether I agree with your theology or not. In fact, I have been thinking of asking you about some of the traditional uses of the sacred landscape, as a way of maybe deepening the role such imagery plays in your thought. So, if you stay, some of these conversations can progress and perhaps be useful to both of us as well as others.

I don't think it's worth leaving over the "offense" that a screen name or avatar can create. As others have pointed out, there is a simple fix for this by using the ignore button. I make great use of this feature myself.

I have no problem with Beavis Christ, myself, but some of that is because I consider B & B to be one of the pop culture masterpieces of the late 20thC. Seriously, if you've never encountered their savvy and astute reading of Chapter 94 of Moby Dick, you are missing out. Indeed, let me quote Melville's glorious passage now so it can be pondered upon by all the readers of MDB:

Herman Melville wrote:Squeeze! squeeze! squeeze! all the morning long; I squeezed that sperm till I myself almost melted into it; I squeezed that sperm till a strange sort of insanity came over me; and I found myself unwittingly squeezing my co-laborers' hands in it, mistaking their hands for the gentle globules. Such an abounding, affectionate, friendly, loving feeling did this avocation beget; that at last I was continually squeezing their hands, and looking up into their eyes sentimentally; as much as to say,- Oh! my dear fellow beings, why should we longer cherish any social acerbities, or know the slightest ill-humor or envy! Come; let us squeeze hands all round; nay, let us all squeeze ourselves into each other; let us squeeze ourselves universally into the very milk and sperm of kindness...In thoughts of the visions of the night, I saw long rows of angels in paradise, each with his hands in a jar of spermaceti.

I can just imagine how raucous a spectacle I would become to view such a treatment by B&B and realize all the more how loud laughter is a sin.
I hate Beavis and Butthead.

I've mentioned this before. And I certainly wouldn't want you to leave the board over it, but must you talk in archaic English?

It never really sounds biblical. Just a little pretentious. I never get passed the language to hear your point.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I'm not sure what you mean. I think it's obvious that you missed how Mike Judge used his creations to mock and critique the excesses of popular culture itself (which is why B & B's comments on music videos were always dead on). I can only hope you don't throw away Melville in your haste. I would think you would find much of value in the work of those 19thC American masters like Melville, Whitman, Hawthorne, Emerson and Thoreau. I am disappointed you did not heed my call to realize Ishmael's vision. "Come; let us squeeze hands all round; nay, let us all squeeze ourselves into each other; let us squeeze ourselves universally into the very milk and sperm of kindness," is one of the most celestial moments in all literature...
