Hi Marg. I'd say that's partially it, and the more important part. And your second sentence above is something that I'm thinking more about. Personally, I appreciated Liz's immediate moderation in the thread and saw it as even-handed. I think she did right by board rules. But you're right that in protecting people's rights to speech there is no institutional consequence for posting such which leaves posters to deal with things themselves. For the board to remain civil, we are reliant on one another to exercise our judgement and show restraint/maturity when confronted with the opposite. As you know, this sounds better on paper than it appears to function in practise.
I appreciate that you shared a similar observation and were willing to express it at some cost to yourself as you are now the subject of the dog pile. I apologize for beginning the conversation that moved things to this point.
I also don't have much else to say in this thread. I only returned, actually, because I didn't think it was fair to leave you to bear the attack when you volunteered to support my view. I sincerely appreciate that. But I think I am going to follow the advise you gave MsJack regarding walking away from a conversation that isn't serving any benefit. I still feel the same about MsJack's response and while it may not have come across this way, it was born out of surprise because I genuinely like her and usually admire her contribution to the online world of Mormonism. I don't see a qualitative difference between the accusations she's made about Cam in real life and his insult of her husband and their relationship. I don't think they're the same thing, but in order of magnitude I tend to think the nuclear option was exercised in that thread multiple times, and Cam wasn't the first person to push the button. And we all know how nuclear wars tend to play out. All it takes is one person who chooses to push the button and then everyone is riding their H-bombs rodeo style.
