If you’ve ever been an active member of the LDS Church I think you may have jumped ship prematurely.Shulem wrote: ↑Fri Sep 19, 2025 8:38 pm
As are the comments made in the Book of Mormon about the one true church of the Lamb (Smith's Mormonism) vs. all other churches and religions who are "the whore of all the earth."
Mormons feel a sense of entitlement in referring to other religions whether ancient or current as "the whore of all the earth" and then we have to deal with the Facsimile sacrilege of the Book of Abraham! How shameful.
I think you get my point.
Note mg's implicit warning about "speaking to the patriarchy."MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 9:40 pmActually, I try very hard not to. But, you know, it is helpful to know if you are speaking to a male or female.
Don’t you agree?
And honestly, I don’t know how to address you…as a male or female. Androgynous? I mean, whatever. It’s just kind of weird…if you are/were Lemmie why you won’t just own up to it or deny it.
I think most people would be cool with whatever you identify as. But the fact is, I for one, have no idea.
And yes, it matters in a particular conversation such as this. Men…masculinity. Females…femininity. LDS teachings in regards to what makes a good man.
Or maybe a non-binary person should be looked to as THE authoritative voice? Not saying that’s what you are (non-binary), but some folks might like to know.
Personally? I would be a bit hesitant about leaning on the voice of a non-binary person as being authoritative in a conversation with this opening OP. I know others might feel differently.
And that’s OK.
But in my opinion it’s not a bad thing to know where someone is coming from as they are speaking to patriarchy, etc.

MG
When you are being disparaging towards Marcus in a post to another poster you use the terms ‘she’ and ‘her’. When you are being disparaging towards a male poster in a post to another poster you use their username. You try to diminish Marcus because Marcus is a woman. You do not do that to a poster whom you think is male. You struggle with strong-minded women in a way you do not struggle with strong-minded men. It has the hallmarks of a significantly insecure man.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 19, 2025 6:18 pmOK. I remember that particular exchange. Honestly? I’m still confused. Why Marcus rather than Lemmie? Is Marcus considered to be a male or female name? I was questioning it then and still do. To me, it sounded/sounds like there was/is some gender dysphoria involved. I am more than happy to be corrected but all I had/have to go on was a change that seemed to be an indication of transitioning of some kind. I suppose all you need to do is make a simple clarification and designation as to whether ‘Marcus’ is a female name or male name.
Again, I’m open to explanation. I was questioning then and the question hasn’t gone away. Also, I’m not sure why the fact that I haven’t been able to completely resolve this rather interesting change from a female to male name is considered to be “sexist”.
My words to you over time have been directed at a ‘person’ that I see as an almost cardboard cutout, not unlike IHQ, of someone who is unable and/or unwilling to reason/think outside of a self constructed box of dogmatic atheism. Folks like you, male or female, I admit are a bit beyond my understanding so I might at times be a bit ‘what the heck’ in reference to what I see as a very restricted worldview. I suppose that may come across.
As I’ve mentioned I went through a period of time years ago where I would have considered myself to be agnostic/atheist but after a period of time I saw that this seemed to be an unreasonable position to take as a dogmatic position with no wiggle room. I do have more respect, granted, for those that are humble enough to know that they don’t know everything and are at least OPEN to the idea of a creator God. So any lack of respect is not due to your sexuality or sexual preferences, per se, but your adamant position that seems to be obvious behind almost all that you say. That is, “I don’t believe in God”. That you are stuck there is a constant remainder of how stubborn the human intellect can be when one becomes self absorbed in one’s own puny abilities to determine ultimate truth.
Those of us that live by faith…do just that. Live by reasoned faith and belief. Are you sure in your knowledge that there is no creator God?

And nothing to do with sexism. You are entrenched in some kind of tiny little world view that, admittedly, it is hard for me to understand. And apparently you are not willing to open up in response to my last post.

The purpose of the Church was to attempt to convert as many people as possible regardless of their present or prior religious beliefs and have them join Mormonism and pledge their devotion to the Church. This of course would entail that they give up membership in their current religion and walk away from those beliefs that are out of harmony with Mormonism and to disavow their support to false religion (Church of the Devil).
That's how I remember it as a missionary. Get as many people to come over to Mormonism's brand of Christianity -- support our prophets, pay tithing, prepare to go to the temple, and receive all the ordinances the Church offers by living the tenets of Mormonism.

"If"?
You scumbag! You know damn well that I was an active member of the church for many years. You pollute this conversation with misinformation in hopes of throwing readers off. We have had lots of conversations in the past about my experiences in the church as an active member and apologist. Heck, I even revealed my mission experience in a thread you were heavily involved in not too long ago wherein RFM really got under your skin.
