Is the Church Telling the Truth About What it Claims to Be?

Post by _Who Knows »

One of the many issues raised by members: Is the Church telling the truth about what it claims to be? Has it acted in good faith in what it claims to be?

To answer this question, there must first be established what it is that the Church claims to be. Correct?

Do you agree that, simply and generally stated, the Church claims to be the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Do you agree that, more specifically, the Church claims to be the gospel of Christ restored in the latter days, the kingdom of God on earth, the "one true Church" headed by Christ through his chosen prophets and priesthood leaders? Do you agree that the founder of the church - Joseph Smith - claimed to have actual/tangible ancient gold plates written by God's prophets here on the american continent?

I think, based on the previous thread, we all agreed on those things (among others) that the church claims to be.

Now, here is a definition of TRUTH that we will use:

Conformity to fact or actuality.

So, Wade, Coggins, Gaz, lets hear your best evidence that the church is telling the truth about what it claims. Well, i guess first you have to tell us if you believe that the church is telling the truth about what it claims - do you?
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...
