juliann Discusses the "Atrocity Narrative"

Post by _Mister Scratch »

Over in the pundits forum, where Beastie has been wiping the floors with juliann's silly, labyrinthine, and utterly tendentious argument, juliann has at last come out and said what she considers to be an "atrocity tale," which is one of the crucial markers of an apostate, as defined by her beloved scholars. This, according to her, is what an "atrocity tale" consists of:

juliann wrote:To me, what is apostate are the stories like the example I gave above...a special link given on RFM....accusations of racism and sexism enforced by fear and restricted knowledge. I think another example is Tom Murphy's accusations that the church was "stealing NA's heritage". That is a pretty serious thing in today's culture...and that is the point. Today's atrocity is going to be a reflection of today's culture. Being thrown off a temple spire just isn't going to cut it anymore. We need a little more subtlety....treading on people's rights is pretty serious today.

Okay. Nevermind that even Mauss states that these narratives have to be "outrageous." What a mess juliann is making. Is she really trying to claim that anyone who criticizes the Church's racist and sexist history is telling an "atrocity narrative"? Moreover, I guess Darron Smith's accusations of Church racism qualify him to be an apostate? The more this discussion goes on, the more I am beginning to think that LDS apostates, aside from truly extreme examples such as Ed Decker, do not exist---at least not according to the theories laid out by the scholars.
