If the Prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Abraham

and claimed he likewise could translate the Kinderhook Plates. Why couldn't he translate the Kinderhook Plates?

I don't know. It appears that there is no reliable evidence that he did, therefore it would not be good to think Joseph actually had begun translating them.

I don't know. It appears that there is no reliable evidence that he did, therefore it would not be good to think Joseph actually had begun translating them.
If I am not mistaken, Richard L. Bushman documents this in "Joseph Smith: Rough Rolling Stone". Do you consider Mr. Bushman to be a reliable historian?

I can't say as I haven't read his work. Besides, I'm actually pretty bad at history. Ask me a math/computer question.

We can't really know for sure whether he did or did not. The accounts are all questionable, and none are written by him.
