The welcome wagon for new MAD posters

Post by _The Dude »

Spoken to a brand new poster named Michelle:

Juliann wrote:I hope you stick around for a little while, Michele. If it makes you feel any better, I did pretty much the same thing many years ago. I wrote to what was then FARMS to express my disapproval over something and a Dr. Peterson took the time to write me a letter. That encouraged me to investigate the anti world a bit more and it was only then that I became aware of the bigger picture. It does not matter what we say or do, it will be taken and used against us. We now have a message board dedicated to mocking everything we say on this message board. The expectation is that the vilification will silence us. It isn't working too well, obviously. If we are seen as too devoted they make fun of us for being mindless robots, if we make fun of ourselves, they will make fun of us for not being mindless robots. It doesn't get much more complicated than that.

Talk about issues....

I do recall sounding something like that myself, during the first year or so of my apostasy. I wanted everyone to know what made me special, just what my troubles had been with Mormonism, etc. Some would vaguely call it an "atrocity story".

They come in many forms.

Oh, lawzie. Can you hear my evil snickers and chortles half-way across the country?

Love it, LOVE it!!!!!
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

What do you call an atrocity tale which weeps about how you can no longer dictate the terms of the critic/apologist dialogue like you used to?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Oh for pete sakes, why doesn't she get a grip? If she's talking about this board she's flat out wrong. Anyone with eyeballs can survey the front page of the Terrestrial Forum alone and see that the majority of threads have nothing whatsoever to do with FAIR/MAD and those that do have something to do with it largely exist because certain posters have been banned from FAIR/MAD and cannot challenge their half baked assertions on that board. The desire to set the record straight is present on this board time and time again in those types of threads.

She needs to pull her head out of her computer ;-) and figure out that she isn't the center of the universe nor is FAIR/MAD.

In the last few weeks, a number of the new posters trying out this board are TBM's from FAIR/MAD. Does it look like people are viciously attacking them and shoving pornography under their nose? Have they been welcomed by this community?

Perhaps when Juliann tires of searching out obscenities on this board and reads the discussions or even the thread titles, she will see that this board isn't about her or FAIR/MAD. How freaking egocentric does it get?

This is what Juliann fails to grasp. There are people posting on these boards who have a healthy amount of self esteem and self confidence. They aren't afraid to say what's on their minds and prefer a board like this because they soon grow weary of having their hand slapped by moderators who can't think or spell their way out of a paper bag and use their "authority" as if it actually means something besides mucking around with people whose positions and questions they aren't able to address (ie hack it).

These boards shouldn't be about posting people's freaking emails/private moderator discussions (where the mods admit outright they're toying with people) or trying to defame an entire group of posters by slamming the board they post on. That's what people do whose ability to argue a point has run it's course.

It occurs to me that my last comments may seem a bit abrupt. Too bad. ;-) I wanted to say something that I recently shared with another poster/board owner/Doc :-). People get tired of posting in a box where they have to weigh out every word they write, essentially walking on eggshells in order to avoid offending someone and end up banned from a board.

This board that Shades has created is the mother of all box cutters! It's open to anyone who has something to say, those who are passionate about their religion, leaving it or disagreeing with it.

Is there something wrong with that? Give me the box cutter any day!
