Dismissing DNA evidence in murder trial based on the Book of Mormon

Post by _Zoidberg »

Alright, I can't contain this information any longer: http://activepaper.olivesoftware.com/Re ... kin-custom

In this case, the defense attorneys have attempted to dismiss the DNA evidence against their client, Glenn Howard Griffin, because "orthodox members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints claim to have a spiritual witness, or revelation, concerning the truthfulness and historicity of the Book of Mormon, (defendant) will argue, expressly or implied, that it is … DNA that must be wrong and, therefore, rejected”.

Luckily, the judge said something to the extent of: "What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it."

But I wonder if it has made an impact on the jurors.

Someone please start a thread on MAD about this. I'm just dying to hear their reaction.

27 And now behold, I say unto you, that the foundation of the destruction of this people is beginning to be laid by the unrighteousness of your lawyers and your judges.
28 And now it came to pass that when Amulek had spoken these words the people cried out against him, saying: Now we know that this man is a child of the devil, for he hath lied unto us; for he hath spoken against our law. And now he says that he has not spoken against it.
29 And again, he has reviled against our lawyers, and our judges.

(Book of Mormon | Alma 10:27 - 29)

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Why? They are just people, with a bit of an odd worldview. Nothing special there.

I wonder if the guy who was just excommunicated could request this judge at his next Court of Love?

What is this, The Onion? If this news story is real, it's just one more piece of evidence that Utah is the weirdest state in the Union.

Maybe nothing special, but there are plenty of special people, IMHO. :)

Who, Lamborn? I doubt he's coming back, so there probably won't be a next court of love.

No, it's the Nauvoo Expositor... I mean Standard Examiner. There is even an email for contacting the author of the article, if you have any questions.

It's already been brought up there:

This seems to be a slight stretch of the "zealous representation" principle of defense attorneys. But I guess if you're facing the death penalty, you leave no stone unturned.

Thanks, skippy. I guess not. But doesn't it hurt the attorneys' reputation? They've already got the Boner of the Day award on X96. That's probably the only award they will ever get.
