The thread over on MAD today about (what else?) exit narratives got me thinking. Do some people over there need to feel like "targets" to feel like they are worth something as apologists? I was thinking that it's usually the least substantive people who tend to get personal with the exmos, and maybe they feel like this is how to get attention and notoriety as a "star" in the apologetic world. Otherwise, I don't understand why people continue to egg on the critics and then express their shock and dismay at the way they are treated.

As to the OP I have no idea! I just want to comment on your signature line. I was so amused when people wagged their fingers at me for posting on this board. So I searched these posters (the finger waggers) posts and was amazed (and again amused) that they quite often were complaining about this board in a rather obsessive fashion!

Two thoughts:

1) Sociological explanations play as big a role in motivating Mormons' decisions as they do in motivating exmormons' decisions. If exmormons are crafting narratives and seeking attention, so are the apologists. Consider, for example, the persecution narrative that juliann has crafted for herself. She is the focal point for an internet-wide conspiracy to slander her behind her back.
2) Speaking of talking behind people's back, folks over at MADB seem to think that the reason we all run over here to talk about juliann is that we're little gossip-mongering Mormon haters. The truth is, I'd be more than happy to express to juliann in person how thoroughly disgusting I think her antics are. But upon doing so, I run the risk of getting banned or suspended for a week, like I just did. Somebody observed that our talking about juliann over here says something about our character. I would observe, in response, that it says something about juliann's character and the character of MADB. Clearly she has been allowed a free hand to piss off everyone, and we haven't been given a hand to fight back. Well, I'm sick of it. Juliann can have her playground. I'm not going back.

Are you thinking Juliann (who I think could get alot more love if she'd start going by Julie or even Jules...I mean who doesn't love a Jules? Remember Jules from Pulp Fiction? That guy ruled!)? I'd suggest she shorten her name even further but then her persecution complex may shift to a whole different gear.

Juliann protests too much. She complains about MDB, but that's just a smokescreen. She gets a kick out of her notoriety (especially the part about being known as a first class bitch all over the internet, which is such a gross exaggeration as to be right up there with Daniel's legendary obsession with Krispy Kremes). For anyone who really knows the score, her complaints about it fall on deaf ears. Juliann loves the attention. It validates her MO. Were she to be ignored, she'd fall into a funk and likely do something outrageous in order to start the gossip about her again. She craves the attention like an addict craves the drug. Attention, any attention even negative attention, gives her a fix and validates her existance.

Were we to ignore her, it would be like water on the witch in Wizard of Oz: she's shrivel up and disappear, just like her board would shrivel up and disappear if the critics all left.

I don't understand what went on...I just read a little of the thread in question. Who is Chris Smith and is s/he on this board? Was CK banned or suspended, and why?

Chris Smith is CaliforniaKid's real name. I'd say CK (Smith) was suspended.

I don't think Juliann is a bitch. I just wonder why I was so fascinating to her... why she wanted to know all the dirty details of my life.

Rather odd I thought... but won't dwell too much on what that means about her. Cause really, who cares?
