The irony of the LDS church.

Post by _karl61 »

First, I apologize to "the dude" because he says "irony" is used too often. (I don't even know if it is the appropriate word for the description below but, who knows:)

second, I'm reading a new essay in American Apocrypha: by Dan Vogel about early Mormon history and the masons or anti-masons of western New York. It seems kind of interesting that the Book of Mormon talks about "secret combinations" and groups doing things in secret and these groups getting violent at times at times, yet of any church in America today if you think about who keeps the most secrets, who forbids talking about certain ceremonies, it's the LDS church. The church in 1843 could be described just like the gadiantons.

One thing that leaped off the page was when Vogel wrote that the way to kill a low ranking mason is to slit their throat like Mr. Morgan, of western new york but to kill a top ranking mason you chop of their head - wow - where have I read that before.

Basically Vogel goes after Peterson, Hamblin, Olster and Quinn and hands each of them their head on a silver plater.

The essay is called "Echoes of Anti-Masonry: A Rejoinder to Critics of Anti-Masonic Thesis.

Check out the real meaning of "Ironic" and "Irony".

Try not to be distracted by the cute chick, she is accurate.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

I always interpreted the dude's comments on irony to indicate that the existence of certain LDS apologists and his/her prolific posts made irony so common as to be hardly worth noting anymore. ;)
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
